Jaemin chewed on the end of his pencil listlessly while sitting opposite Donghyuck.

The older was scribbling down some ideas for their project while blowing some long locks of hair off of his forehead. It was a futile task because the hair would fall straight back over his eyes immediately, as if to mock him.

"Jaem, do you think this equation would work here?" He asked while briefly glancing up at the bluette before looking straight back down at the clumps of numbers in front of him.

"Dunno."

Donghyuck gave the younger an unimpressed look before shaking his head dismally. "Right...Of course you don't."

The pair had been sitting in Jaemin's bedroom for the guts of three hours, mostly chatting and procrastinating, though when Donghyuck was ready to knuckle down and get the work done, Jaemin had decided that it didn't suit him.

Donghyuck picked up his mug of coffee that Jaemin had made for him, and took a small sip, the warm beverage sliding smoothly down his throat in a comforting way.

"Jaemin, please take this seriously. You're the one who wanted to pair with me, the least you could do would be to not drag me down!" He frustratedly hissed, trying to calm himself down, but the sight of the younger sprawled out on his seat while thrumming his fingers against the table made his blood boil.

His once hyper and contagious energy had become dulled and unamused which reminded him of how he had felt on his first day of school. At this thought, he remembered meeting the boys who he had grown so close with in a little under two months. He felt successful in settling into the school, and at this point found the thought of leaving the town quite upsetting.

"-nghyuck...Donghyuck..." the blonde sighed deeply, switching his attention back to Jaemin who patiently sat there in a slightly more appropriate and work-ready position. "You want me to help or not?"

Donghyuck shook his head at the younger, his smile returning to his face as he rolled his shoulders back to relieve the tense feeling.

"Let's get some of this done, yeah?"

The two boys had long since grown sick of studying, but both were satisfied with the work they had done.

Now, they walked side by side in the relatively light falling snow.

The sugary white flakes fell onto both boys' hair, causing the scene to look like one from a perfect film. Perfect, that's how Donghyuck felt in that moment as both boys chatted about anything and everything.

"Yeah, and he was also in my class," Jaemin chuckled, having just told the older one of his totally exaggerated, but hilarious stories.

"That reminds me of something Renjun did the other day."

Jaemin hummed while inspecting his nails in thought. "So you're friends with him, huh?" The bluette asked, his eyes darting to the other's curiously.

Donghyuck hummed in confirmation before pulling the scarf further around his neck for more comfort.

"Well he's a good guy, Hyuck, and I think it's very sweet of him to take the new kids under his wing like he does." Both boys walked in a short-lived silence after that, stopping at the bottom of the steps outside Donghyuck's house. "But keep that cute attitude of yours. Don't let this mad school discourage you," he mumbled softly while ruffling the older's hair. "You're adorable, Hyuck, no one can take that away from you."

As Jaemin turned away, about to head home for the night, Donghyuck grabbed his sleeve to pull him back. "What do you mean by that?"

The younger merely sighed before wearily eyeing the boy. "Those boys just don't seem as chipper as they used to be." He paused for a moment to take in each detail of the house they stood before. "But who could possibly be happy when school sucks so bad," he chuckled while turning away.

This time he proceeded to walk in the opposite direction to Donghyuck, waving to the blonde who was watching his back.

Then, as Jaemin's figure faded away, Donghyuck set his gaze on the house opposite his. He noticed the curtains being pulled closed almost...angrily?

With his mind at unease, Donghyuck walked up the steps and retreated to the warmth of his home.

He could ask Renjun about it tomorrow.
