It had to have been the early hours of the morning when Donghyuck next woke up. Each movement was sluggish, which led to him sitting up in confusion. He recalled watching a film, but hadn't remembered falling asleep.
Donghyuck tilted his head to each side, cringing when his neck cracked a little. He then began to roll his shoulders back before worming his way out of Renjun's hold. He had to admit, he didn't want to leave, but his throat had grown scratchy and dry in the past hours.
As he stumbled wearily to the kitchen, his eye was taken by quite a beautiful sight.
The curtain had been lazily pulled by Chenle earlier, which meant Donghyuck was still able to see outside.
It was obviously five or six in the morning due to the dull grey that hung heavily in the sky.
Beautiful flakes of snow almost rhythmically danced in the sky. The soft wind pushing them in clusters as they celebrated the cold winter together.
Donghyuck watched in awe. He loved the thought of snow and the look of snow, but he just couldn't stand how cold it was.
With that being said, the young teen shivered, his sweater - which was many sizes too big for him - didn't do a very good job of fending off the nippy cold and left him trembling by the draughty window.
"It's beautiful, isn't it?" A soft spoken voice rung from behind Donghyuck.
The younger jumped slightly, having not expected any of the other boys to be awake, but he instantly relaxed once Mark stepped out of the shadows and walked closer to the exposed window.
Donghyuck hummed in agreement, having always found innocence and purity in the colour white. "I love snow. It's so....perfect," he whispered quietly while side-eyeing Mark, who nodded along.
"I love it too. But I've had one too many bad experiences in it."
Donghyuck was taken aback. What could be bad about snow?
"Y'know, I met Renjun in the winter...I'll never forget that. I had just arrived here from Canada. My parents were becoming busier with their work schedule and they realised that it was unfair on me being left at home alone. So I live with my aunt and my cousin," he explained.
By doing this, Hyuck had almost forgotten his previous statement about his dislike for winter.
"That's when Junnie took me under his wing. I didn't know Korean well, and although he was foreign, he was confident enough to teach me everything. I was grateful for that...." he trailed off towards the end, thinking back to how normal things were between them...and how trapped he had become.
"'Was'?"
Mark watched Donghyuck's reflection from the window, seeing the curious glint in his eyes. The life in his eyes. The emotions. He wished he could prevent the likely future, but he had seen this happen way too many times. He was Renjun's first love after all. "Enough said, kid. Let's go to the kitchen."
With that, Mark closed the curtains, covering this glistening white snow, and shrouding the house in darkness again.
This was really starting to pique Donghyuck's interest.
