The bell had rung, indicating the end to a boring school day. Donghyuck had to admit, without Renjun, he would have died. The student council president had kindly stuck with him for the day, and had even introduced him to his other friends.

During any moment of weakness, the older had helped Donghyuck out, and covered for him on multiple occasions if he was late for class due to the complexity of the maze-like hallways.

But Donghyuck would be lying if he said he wasn't excited to go home. Even though the boxes were yet to be unpacked, and the musty smell mixed with the overpowering aroma of mould made his stomach churn, he didn't want to spend another moment in the rather intimidating school.

"Hey, Donghyuck. It's gotten dark out there. You know how winter is," Renjun mumbled, glancing outside to the blackening sky.

It was only five in the evening, and the sky was already reflecting a painted nighttime canvas.

"I would really hate for something to happen to you. Would you like me to walk you home?" The brunette continued, eyes darting around manically when he saw the chance of refusal glisten in Donghyuck's slightly lidded eyes.

He began to scratch at his scabs behind his back, relaxing as he felt the blood trickle between his fingers again. He really wouldn't want to scare such a good catch off so quickly by snapping at him.

Donghyuck, who hadn't noticed anything off due to his habit of avoiding all eye contact, gave a naïve nod, knowing that he would probably get lost, and he wanted nothing more than to get to the comfort of the heated home.

After sorting through their lockers and gathering together what was needed, Renjun and Donghyuck began walking to the younger's house.

They were leisurely strolling when Renjun began talking, his eyes set on his fingernails, cursing slightly at the mud beneath them.

"What hobbies do you have?" The older asked, his gaze switching from his overgrown fingernails to the transfer student's face.

Donghyuck glanced at Renjun before sending the older a happy smile, his unawareness to danger leading him into a sticky situation.

"Well..." he blinked a few times, finding that the chilly air the pair walked against was starting to make him feel numb. "I love gardening. I know that might sound-"

He was cut off by a small hum. His attention went from the colour that begun to spread across his cheeks, to Renjun, who shook his head.

"I love gardening too...Roses."

Donghyuck found the whole sentence a bit off, and found himself leaning in a bit.

"What?"

"I adore roses."
