Chapter 44

"Ling? This is..." Zilong voiced out, looking at the figure in front of him that was kneeling on the ground, facing a rock as big as him.

After moments of silence, Ling placed a flower in front of the rock and stood up quietly. The rest watched, all in grief for his team. They knew how hard it must have been, losing comrades.

"Hey, are you okay?" Zilong asked, walking up towardss him and placing a hand on his shoulder. Ling only continued to stare at the rock before giving a slow nod.

"This rock, was when we all first met... basically our starting point.." he answered, not taking his eyes off the rock. Memories of his teammates' death flashed through his mind, making him slight dizzy for a moment.

Guiltily, Wanwan spoke up. "I'm sorry.. about what I said about  them.. that was kinda-"

"No, its fine. You werent yourself anyway," Ling interrupted. She felt like he was still mad, but could sense sincerity in his voice.

Silence fell once again as they didnt know  what to speak of. Soon, Baxia spoke up.

"We.. should head back. It's getting dark."

The rest agreed. Before walking away, they gave their prayers to the rock. After all, they couldnt leave without doing nothing.

As the rest walked out, Ling walked the last. He still could not forgive himself for not being able to save his team.

A voice behind him then could be heard, but only to him. "Come on, Ling. No need to blame yourself."

Realising it sounded like Kimmy, he quickly turned around and hoped she was alive. Unfortunately, no one was there. He wondered if it was only his imagination.

Masha's voice could be heard next. "Dont be too hard on yourself."

Estes next. "Like I said, go on and live."

Valir last. "You did great, Ling. We'll always be here, waiting for you."

Hearing the gentle, sincere voice of his team was enough to make tears form in Ling's eyes. Trying not to crack his voice, he answered back, not knowing if they were listening.

"I'll come back, eventually."

"Okay. What happened to the door?" Wanwan asked as soon as she saw the door busted out, splinters all over the place. Inside,  the furniture was scattered. 

"Why's the door broken?" Chang'e asked, tilting her head to the side.

Everyone turned to look at Ling, who flinched at the sudden accusation. His body tensed up, suddenly remembering that he broke it.

"I... may have been a little.. to rough..." his voice got softer as he spoke as he scratched the back of his neck awkwardly.

Picking up the door, Zilong looked at it and said in a mock-sad voice. "Dont be mean, Ling. What did the door ever do to you?" he said it in an annoying baby voice, making Ling wanting to slap his head.

"Hah! As punishment, you shall stand guard till we get a new door!" Baxia perked up, pointing his finger at Ling.

The sound of Ling bringing up his sword was enough to shut Baxia up.

As they entered the house, they took a look around and admired the mess created by the one and only assassin there.

"Seriously though. You didnt have to be this rough," Wanwan said, looking at an apple on the floor. She sighed and picked it up, the urge to eat it getting stronger. However, she placed it on the table instead.

Zilong's loud booming voice made them flinch in surpise. "Okay everyone! Get to sleep early! We have a big day tomorrow!"

Wanwan groaned as she slouched, her energy going down the drain. "Seriously? I just got discharged and you want us to work?!"

"Just do it! Its for him!" Zilong replied, emphasising on the 'him'

Though they had no idea who he was referring to, they hesitantly complied. Everyone went to their own rooms, immediately flopping on their beds.
