You and your brother Oz had the most amazing mother ever. Not Ivy, because she sucked, but Ally? She was always there for both of you, from your smallest achievements, to the annual PTA meetings, she was more than capable of handling everything. Even without Ivy's help.
So when they split, all of you were okay with living without her, because let's face it, you had all you need already, Ally was the best ever.
She was that approachable person you could talk to about anything, and she had been so accepting when you came out to her. You might not have been sure whether you were a lesbian or bi, but your mother had supported you wanting to date girls rather than boys.
"Hey, mom?" you asked as you knocked softly on the door.
"Yes?"
"Can I ask you something?"
Ally laughed softly and beckoned you to sit with her, "I think you just did, but what is it anyway?"
"How did you know you liked someone?"
"Do you mean Ivy?"
"Maybe," you wiggled your eyebrows suggestively, "maybe someone else?"
"Down, tiger. Well, normally when you start having a crush on someone, there's the cliché butterflies in your stomach and you want to get to know them better and stuff, wait a minute, are you crushing on someone?"
"Nope."
"Who is it, Y/N?"
"Nobody."
"You're biting your cheek, little liar."
"Maybe I am, maybe I'm not."
Patting your head softly, your mother tried to reassure you, "Hey, I already know you're into girls, there's nothing to be ashamed of if you are crushing on someone."
"Okay fine, I might be."
"Who is it?"
"Her name's Jane," you admitted embarrassedly.
"What's she like?"
"She's really pretty, and funny, and she has the most amazing smile, the softest voice, and she's completely and utterly the best to hang out with, like, I can talk to her about anything, and she's completely okay with it."
"You seem so into her, honey."
"I don't know if I am, my heart races every time she smiles or even just looks at me."
"I think you have a crush on her, Y/N. Though, how did she catch your eye?"
"How is that relevant?"
"It may help us figure out if you like her or not."
"Well, she wasn't my type at first, and she seemed too aloof for me to be drawn to her, but then I cracked a joke and she smiled at me and my heart melted, and then she wore her hair differently the next day and all I could think was, how did I not realize how pretty she was, and I couldn't get her off my mind for about a week, then I knew I needed to get to know her, so now we're friends."
"Is she straight?"
"I don't know," you shrugged, "my other friends say she has some kind of sapphic energy, but she's never expressed interest in girls."
"Do you think she likes you?"
"No."
"How do you feel about inviting her to dinner soon?"
"What? Why?"
Ally winked playfully at you, "I want to meet her, so Ozzy and I can decide if she's good enough for you."
