june came sooner than we both expected, my time left slowly ticking. today was the week of prom and graduation, two of my most life-altering events. since this week was going to be hectic, mom and dad decided to have my "getting into nyu" celebration party this weekend rather than next weekend. i had no idea they were going to do this, so when jungkook randomly texted me to meet him at this fancy restaurant, i thought he was high or something.
you stayed close behind mom and dad, not interacting much with everyone else. the guys said hey to you occasionally, out of common decency, but the conversations were never long. every time i took a glance at you, you always had a dejected look on your face. you seemed so out of place, like you didn't want to be there.
along with the surprise party, mom and dad requested the restaurant to surprise me with a cake. i sat at the table, a chocolate cake in full view in front of me. written on the cake in crimson blue frosting were the words congratulations with a single white candle in the center. mom and dad stood on either side of my chair, while you and the rest of our family and friends faced me.
i stared down at the cake, taking a deep breath before blowing out the candle. everyone cheered, rushing towards me. mom gave me a kiss on the cheek, whilst dad and a few of my friends patted my back. you didn't move from your spot, staring deeply at the wide grin on my face. you watched as everyone cheered for me, mom and dad shimmering with pride. you tucked your hair behind your ear, quietly making your way out of the party room and towards the entrance of the restaurant.
after a few minutes, mom finally noticed you disappeared. she rushed over to me while i was talking to jungkook and taehyung, glancing up at me with bambi eyes, "can you go find minji for me? i can't find her anywhere."
"sure," i responded, turning back towards the guys. "give me a second."
i slipped away from the party, walking around the restaurant. with my hands stuffed in my pockets, i scanned the room for you. i passed the bathrooms, waiting in front of the women's in hopes you would come out - you never did. the last place i hadn't checked was outside, and to my surprise, there you were. i watched as you leaned against the railing, your phone in your hand as you stared at the road. your phone screen was a number touch pad, which i assumed meant you must've called someone.
"mom's in there looking for you," i spoke up, causing you to turn your head towards me. your blank stare only lasted for a second because you already turned back to the road.
i waited for your response, scoffing when i realized you ignored me, "wow, you're still ignoring me."
"ignoring you?" you finally spoke up, your voice soft as you questioned me.
i turned to you, leaning against the railing inches away from you, "yeah. i do nothing to you and you just ignore me for weeks!"
"you're one to talk."
"and what the fuck is that supposed to mean?"
"you're complaining about me ignoring you for a week? i did nothing to you for two whole years and you ignored me!" you called out, disbelief in your eyes.
i was taken back, "what are you talking about?"
"wow, now you're gonna act like nothing happened," you scoffed.
"because i didn't ignore you, minji!"
"yes you did!" you cried out, voice booming with anger. "for the past two years, you've done nothing but ignore me. it's like you've forgotten that i exist, like you're not the only child. you stopped talking to me, stopped hanging out with me, you stopped every interaction with me and now you have the fucking nerve to act like you didn't do anything!"
