Continuation of the last chapter

As the credits rolled, Ava carefully pulled the remote from under Connor's hip, turning off the TV. She slipped out of his warm embrace without making a sound, so as not to Wake him. After covering her husband with a blanket, ava went to the kitchen to Get a glass of water. Sleep, as luck would have it, did not want to, so, sitting on the wide windowsill, taking a pillow, she began to look at the cloudless night sky, dotted with her favorite stars.

"Ava!" Connor's scream came from the living room, and Ava immediately came running, startled.

"Connor, wake up!" when she saw that he was fidgeting on the couch, not waking up, but still calling her name, Ava crouched down next to him, her hand on his shoulder.

Eyes wide, gasping, taking a deep breath, Connor sat up abruptly, glancing quickly around the room, his lost gaze settling on her. His throat was dry, and attempt to say something coherent failed. Ava climbed up on the sofa next to him, hugging him tightly, soothing him with gentle strokes of her hands. Connor's heavy breathing slowly returned to normal. He was already holding Ava close, aware that she was there, that nothing had happened to her.

"It's okay, I'm here, honey" Ava whispered, pulling her head away from his chest so that she could look into his eyes and then be close to him again.

"I woke you up" there was guilt in Connor's voice, which made Ava frown and shake her head.

"No, I haven't slept yet, I wanted water" she explained, squeezing his hand lightly, exhaling. "Connor, what did you dream?"

Ava felt Connor stiffen, not saying a word, only averting his eyes. It had been a long time since he'd had nightmares that made his heart jump out of his chest and his breath catch in his throat, robbing him of any remaining air. Feeling Ava's warm hands on him made Connor really feel better.

"Connor, you know what you can tell me" Ava assured him, trying to cheer him up in the same way she'd been with him since they'd first met. "Not even that, you have to tell me".

"Avey" Connor said weakly, unable to find a convincing excuse not to share the nightmare.

"Was it me?" Ava suggested cautiously, but the man's shoulders tensed and she knew she'd hit the mark.

Even after guessing one detail of the dream, Ava didn't hear any more, exhaling noisily, nuzzling Connor's neck. Of course, she didn't want to force all the details out of him, but something told her that it was more dangerous to leave it unsaid.

"Look, Connor, whatever you're dreaming is just a figment of your imagination, even if it's dark". Ava seemed to be reading her husband's mind, not taking her eyes off him, saying what he had imagined. Her sensitivity knew no bounds.

"If Halstead had been late, if he had hesitated, you would have been dead" Connor said hoarsely, tightening his grip on Ava, afraid that otherwise she would disappear.

"But it's not" Ava breathed louder than the last speech, feeling a slight shiver in Connor's body. "Jay made it, and I'm with you. And I'm going to give you a lot of trouble in general operations".

Connor finally relaxed, chuckling softly at Ava's words, which were absolutely true. How adept she was at picking them up, healing him.

"You know, I'd rather have you under my close supervision 24/7" Rhodes admitted, kissing his little girl's hair, gently running his fingers through it.

"When do we have a vacation there?" Ava laughed, lifting her head to kiss him insistently on the lips, breaking into a happy smile.

"A couple of months from now, in September" Connor said with a rueful smile, scooping up his beloved as he walked into the bedroom.

With a gasp, Ava wrapped her arms around Connor's neck, laughing, finally getting used to moving this way. Once on the bed, she didn't let go of him, leaning closer to him, closing her eyes. Feeling the soft touch of lips on her hair, Ava shifted, lifting her head to get a real deep kiss. She kept her eyes on Connor, feeling the indescribable pleasure of being close to him that both of them had always lacked.

Rolling onto her back, under Connor, seeing his excited gaze, Ava knew for sure that her husband wasn't going to have nightmares any time soon.
