CHAPTER ONE: FATHERS GRAVE
EVELYN ROGERS SAT IN HER room, her legs crossed as her hair hung over her shoulders. Her eyes were scanning over the note she had written for when she went to her father's grave. She did it every time, writing down the things that went on in the past two weeks and making sure not to miss anything. Evelyn never knew her father, him having died before either she and Steve were born. Evelyn had always heard the stories that her mother had told, smiling as she looked at the love that still danced in her mothers eyes for her now deceased husband. Evelyn had always been curious as to what it was like to experience love, but Evelyn knew that it was something she wouldn't experience like she wanted. She was different, and she didn't want to admit that to herself, so she didn't. She kept that nagging thought in the farthest corner of her head, tucking it in the closet and allowing dust to collect.
A knock came to her bedroom door, making the blonde look up. Her mother stood there and Evelyn offered her a smile before uncrossing her legs and making room for her mother to join her on the bed. Sarah Rogers walked over to her daughter, smiling softly as she took a seat beside of her. She took notice of the sheet of paper in Evelyn's hands, and a small smile fell on her face.
"Going to see his grave?" She asked, tucking a strand of Evelyn's blonde hair behind her ear. Evelyn bit her lip before nodding her head. Sarah smiled at her daughter. "I'm glad you go to see him, you know. He would've loved to be here with you and Steve."
"I wish I could've met him." Evelyn said, a sad sigh falling from her lips. Her eyes glossed over just thinking about what her life would have been like with a father figure in it. Sarah frowned, putting her arm around Evelyn's shoulder.
"I know, and I wish you could have met him as well." Sarah softly told her. "I know he would've loved to be the father of you both. He would've been so proud of you."
Evelyn let a sad smile come to her face, wiping a stray tear that had tipped over her eyeline. She quickly wiped it away before it could drip onto the letter that was folded in her hands. Sarah smiled at her daughter before giving her a kiss on her head.
"I love you, Evelyn."
"I know." Evelyn smiled, turning her head to look at her mother. "I love you too."
Steve appeared in the doorway and both Evelyn and their mother offered him a small smile before Evelyn removed herself from her bed and walked over to her brother. Steve offered her a smile as he grabbed her hand before the two made their way out of the home. They took the path they always did, one that never had bullies surrounding it. The two walked in silence, Evelyn fingering the letter in her hands.
"It's stupid, right?" Evelyn suddenly asked, grabbing her twins attention. He furrowed his eyebrows as he looked up at the blonde.
"What is?"
"Going to see our dad even though we never met him." Evelyn softly said, biting on the inside of her cheek. Steve frowned deeply at this, not really sure where this sudden thought had come from.
"Where's this coming from, Eve?"
Evelyn shrugged her shoulders, kicking a rock at her feet as they continued to walk. The wind blew her hair off of her shoulder, making her glance up slightly. "I don't know. Insecurities I guess."
"Don't be insecure about things that bring you comfort, Eve." Steve sternly told her. "I quite enjoy walking with you to dads grave. It's something we've been doing together for a few years now, it feels like a tradition almost."
Evelyn's lip twitched upwards at this. "It's not the fact that I'm insecure or embarrassed about going to his grave. It's because I write letters to him. . . and he'll never actually hear them. It's weird, isn't it?"
"Maybe to everyone else." Steve shrugged. "But not to me, or mom, or Bucky. And that's what matters."
This time, a real smile fell onto the teenagers face as she nodded her head. "You know, out of all of the siblings I could have had, I'm glad that you were mine."
"I feel the exact same." Steve smiled, earning a small laugh from Evelyn.

Evelyn sat at her fathers grave, Steve sitting by a tree as he let his sister have her moment. Evelyn glanced at her brother, a small smile falling on her face before she turned her head to look at her fathers tombstone. A sad smile fell on her face as she opened the letter and cleared her throat.
"Uh. . . hey dad." Evelyn started, her throat clogging up with tears. "I'm back, 5:00 on the dot as per usual. I'll be honest, not much has happened. It's the same as per usual, Steve getting beat up in an alley, Bucky saving us, we hang out with Bucky until we have to go home. It's great, but if you could just help Steve out, and keep him protected in some way. . ." She trailed off, shaking her head as she smiled in amusement at herself. "Anyways, I'll be graduating from high school next month, I'm excited to finally be free of school. I haven't decided if I want to leave for college. I couldn't leave mom and Steve behind, nor could I leave Bucky. He and I have become really close, and no, not like you're thinking." Evelyn let out a soft laugh as she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. "Anyways, I miss you everyday dad. Even if we never met, mom has told me all about you, and I really wish we could have met." She picked up the flower she and Steve had grabbed on their way over to the grave, and she placed it on top of his tombstone with a small smile. "See you in two weeks, dad." She smiled softly before standing up, brushing the dirt from her dress as she walked back over to Steve.
Steve stood up once he saw his sister approaching, dusting the dirt from his pants as well. "Usually we're here for an hour tops." Steve told her.
"I know." Evelyn nodded. "I didn't have much to say today. Besides, there's supposed to be a carnival tonight, and I was hoping maybe you, Bucky, and I could all go?"
Steve smiled at this, nodding his head in agreement. "Mom wouldn't mind, she likes Bucky."
Eveyn's smile brightened. "Well, we better go find our dear friend then, shouldn't we?"
Steve smile back at his twin, nodding his head. "Indeed we should." And with that, the two siblings were off.
