I helped Severus pack his things for Hogwarts. I had no reason to be going this year, visiting wasn't really a thing at Hogwarts unless it was for official business or recreational purposes like a Qudditch game or some other event, which I did not have a child attending Hogwarts, or one at all, so I had no reason to be going to a Quidditch game.
There was also no teaching position or extra place as staff that needed to be filled, which I had felt slightly disappointed about. With Severus leaving and me having nowhere else to go it would be the first time I would be alone, and I also had to go out and figure out a suiting profession for myself.
Severus suggested I take this time to do some things to explore what I might want to do. Experiment with chemistry, maybe try magizoology since I enjoyed teaching with Hagrid, Defense Against the Dark Arts (because as much as we didnt want to admit it, it seemed that there was going to be some sort of issue with them from here on out), maybe become an Auror for the Ministry, Muggle Studies even seeing that I enjoy the literature. I had many avenues I could take and Severus said he was fully confident in me going down any of the paths since I was fairly talented.
But alas, I couldn't find the motivation to do any of those things. I did however like teaching, so I was beginning to devise myself a plan.
I looked to Severus as be scanned the contents of his bag.
"I'm going to miss you, you know." I said looking at him. He closed the trunk and picked it up from the bed.
With his free hand he cupped my face and then kissed my forehead.
"Try not to be too naughty while I'm gone." His choice of words made me blush, but I shook my head at him.
"I promise everything will be in one piece when you return for winter. And who knows, I might be an animagus by then." I chuckled and he made a half smile, shaking his head.
"I dont know how I'd feel about that."
"I'm only joking."
He let go of me and I saw him out the door. And with that he left for Hogwarts. And now it was time to really develope my plan.
I wanted to be a teacher, and I had been thinking of classes I knew were at Hogwarts and there just so happened to be one that I took and I also knew the teacher was due to retire any year now.
Magical Theory.
The class was perfect for me, it was all about studying magic and what could be of it. And the class had a curriculum, but it wasn't exactly a strict one I had noticed.
It was perfect.
So I picked up a few books to learn more about the subject, and I only read for a night in a morning before I got a letter from Severus.
Dear Y/N,
I have news I think you'll quite like. This year, Hogwarts is welcoming the Beaxbatons school for witches, and Durmstrang school, for the Tri-Wizard cup. I'm sure you're wondering why I'm bothering you with this news, but Dumbledore is allowing trusted outside visitors to join us for the events.
I have asked Dumbledore myself if you would be allowed to come early, and stay for the entire school year. I'm sure because of this request he has caught on to our... situation. But he seems to have no qualms about it.
Take this as your formal invitation back to Hogwarts.
Sincerely, Severus.
I read the letter over again and nodded to myself. It put a wedge in my plans but I knew I'd have plenty of spare time anyways, and being at Hogwarts I could consult Dumbledore about it too.
I went into the room I share with Severus and began to pack a bag, puttingnin all the clothes I wore last year to help teach, as well as some more casual ones. I left the home. Making sure it was all locked up.
The next morning I arrived at Hogwarts via train. I had to get to the castle on foot, but I did indeed get there. I knew the students would be in classes by now, so I couldn't pester Severus.
I walked down to the dungeons and wandered ar oi und before approaching the Slytherin common room entrance.
"You're not a student." The painting said.
"I used to be, dont you remember me?" I asked the painting on the wall, ours was changed out in our third year. "The password should be chamomile."
"I still don't remember you, and you arent allowed in." I rolled my eyes and started walking back down the hall with my bags in my hand.
I walked down the quiet and empty hall on my own, and then I heard the shuffle of multiple feet. I looked down the corridor and saw students coming out of the Potions classroom, I assumed this meant they were finished with class.
I pushed through the circulation of students and walked into the potions classroom. I saw Severus cleaning up a mess made by the fourth years. I cleared my throat and he looked up at me.
"I was beginning to think you weren't going to come."
"I figured it would be awfully boring for you here all by yourself." I smiled at him and it was able to make him smile a bit too.
"You can put your things in my chambers." I nodded at this statement and went to the back if the class and put my bags down. When I walked back Severus was waiting for me.
"It's odd don't you think? For me to be back here again even after my graduation?" I looked to him and he shrugged a bit.
"It seems Dumbledore likes your presence here."
"It would seem so."
