I looked around at all the students go onto the Hogwarts Express, I debated even going on this year. I stared at the train for a bit and eventually pulled myself together and got on, neglecting everything happening around me. I quickly found an empty compartment and sat down in it, closing the door before I did so.
I looked out of the window of the train at the other side of the platform. Resting my head against the window I sighed looking at all the first years. All my years at Hogwarts were always happy, despite all the classes I didn't like. I was always a good student. But this year all motivation I had to do anything was drained. Usually I'd sit with F/n (Friend Name) and our mutual friends but, I didn't even feel like finding them this year.
"Even if I'm wrong, I'd be better off anywhere else in the world than with the both of you! Even with the muggles!"
It echoed in my head, the pain of the words. I closed my eyes and before the train even pulled away I was pulled into a slumber. More like an escape.

When I awoke, it was to the sound if Hagrid's hollering at the first years, I wasn't even in my robes.
"Shit..." I mumbled and quickly scrambled out of the compartment with my stuff. I ran over to the carriages, being one of the last ones there. I climbed into the self-pulling carriage and let it carry me towards the school. My beloved school...
The first thing I did when I got inside was sneak off to change into my robes.
I just barely made it into the Great Hall, trailing behind a few Gryffindors that seemed about my age. I looked at the Slytherin table and saw my friends, F/n included. In fact, they saved a spot for me right next to them. I suppose that was something they did for me every year.
I sat down in the spot just as Dumbledore walked up to the teachers table at the front of the hall.
"You're late, where were you? Did you miss the train?" F/n asked me, pulling the attention of the rest of our friends who awaited an answer.
"No I just got there late and didn't have enough time to find you guys..." I lied through my teeth so casually. Trait of a Slytherin I guess.
"Oh, well good thing you're here now!" They gave me a tight hug, to which I returned very half efforted.
McGonagall walked in with all the first years, they're all wide-eyed and happy. Good on them, I was probably the same way.
"Now, before we begin Professor Dumbledore would like to say a few words."
"I have a few start of term notices I wish to announce," Dumbledore proclaims, standing above everyone, "The first years, please note... that the Dark Forest is strictly forbidden to all students. Also, our caretaker Mr Filch has asked me to remind you that the third-floor corridor is out-of-bounds to everyone who does not wish to die a most painful death." My heart drops a little. Maybe it was just some sort of spook for us first years. "Thank you."
McGonagall stepped forward once more. "When I call your name, you will come forth. I shall place the Sorting Hat on your head and you will be sorted into your houses." McGonagall turns to her list and reads the first name. "Hermione Granger."
A small girl with brown hair goes up to the chair slowly and sits in it. The hat ponders for a bit before placing her into Gryffindor.
"Draco Malfoy." A platinum blonde hair walks up to the chair and sits down. The hat doesn't even touch his head before it shouts "Slytherin." The kid smirks and walks over towards the front of our table.
"Great, another cocky little shit we have to deal with," I complain as I keep an eye in the boy.
"He's a Malfoy, surely you know who Lucius Malfoy is right? Your father works in the ministry." F/n says. I clench my jaw slightly.
"Yeah," I mumble.
"Ronald Weasley!" McGonagall calls and I can't help but smile lightly, the Weasleys must be breeding like rabbits to have this many children. The redheaded boy walks up and sits down and the chair.
"Another Weasley... I know just what to do with you. Gryffindor!" The hat yelled, it was really no surprise to me.
"Harry Potter." My heart stopped for a second and my eyes widened too. Thay was a surprise to me. Everyone started whispering amongst themselves and even F/n tried speaking to me but I blocked them out, staring at the boy with the round glasses as he walked up to the seat.
"Hmm... difficult. Very difficult. Plenty of courage I see, not a bad mind either. There's talent, lots of talent, and a thirst to prove yourself... but where to put you.... not Slytherin eh? But you could be great you know, it's all here in your head, and Slytherin will help you along the way to greatness! There's no doubt about that. No? If you're sure... better be... Gryffindor!" Of course the whole table went wild ab oi ut this. I shrugged it off. At least there would be little to no room to focus on me with Harry Potter around, the boy who lived.
After that, the feast began. Everyone started eating once the food appeared. Talking, laughing, catching up. I, however, contrary to every other year I was here, stayed quiet.
"Why you been so quiet?" Hillary asked me, one of my other friends who was sitting across from me.
"I don't feel well... stomach bug maybe." I shrugged.
"You should see Madame Pomfrey after the feast then." She suggested.
"No I'll be alright, I can just sleep it off." I didn't touch my food and instead looked to the front if the room. I took notice to Snape staring down Potter. Strange, but I suppose not too out of the ordinary for that professor.
