VICTORIA

"What?"

I stared at Mom and Kuya Julius with disbelief.

Kuya Julius was about to talk but I raised my hand, palm facing him. For a moment, I closed my eyes and recalled what they just said.

"Why?" I asked again. "Dad's still alive. Unconscious, but alive." I added.

"Tori, sweetie, you don't have to decide right now. Once you get discharged—"

"No!" I exclaimed.

Napalunok ako nang makitang nakatitig sa akin si Mom at si Kuya. Hanggang sa bumuntong hininga si Kuya at sinabing aalis na muna sila.

Sinundan ko na lang sila ng tingin hanggang sa makalabas sila sa kwarto. At pakiramdam ko nanghina ako kaya napahiga ako ulit sa kama.

I didn't want to act like that. Especially not towards them.

But I didn't want to think of it. I don't have to. Because why would I agree to have my Dad's life support cut off when there's a chance that he can live?

That's what I thought but I found myself staring into nothing for almost an hour. The same words echoing over and over again in my head. Because such a thing cannot be easily forgotten.

"Your Highness, it's time for your medication."

Red approached the bed while pushing the rolling table with a couple of things on top. One of which is a glass of water beside the tablet box where my medications are.

And just like I promised Clinton, I took a picture of me drinking it.

"Red, what's going on?" Tanong ko nang matapos ako sa pag-inom.

"The usual, Your Highness."

Sa sinagot ni Red, napalingon ako sa kan'ya. Agad din s'yang umiwas ng tingin at dahil hindi ko inalis yung tingin ko sa kan'ya, nahuli kong tiningnan n'ya ako ulit.

"Tell me." Pautos na sabi ko.

Clinton has made it clear to me that as long as I'm inside this hospital, I'm not getting involved in any of the business and political issues of the Royal Family. I know he's worried. And I'm completely aware that it was awful of me to not tell him about me having a congenital heart disease.

But it's not like I meant to not tell him about it. Sasabihin ko naman, humahanap lang ako ng tamang timing. Frankly, I knew that he's going to be like this once he finds out. Which is why I originally planned to tell him at least before our third year in college ends.

Gusto kong sa akin n'ya mismo malaman but not like this.

Me having a heart attack in the middle of the university during the afternoon? To make things worse, I had a cardiac arrest! Right in front of him.

"The Royal Family has made public announcements of their suspicions on who could be the plunderers. Both the King and Queen are personally monitoring the investigation and they have also released bank statements when the suspects tried to point the fingers to the family." Red answered in a defeated tone.

"Who are they suspecting?"

"The Royal Accountant, the owner of the National Bank of Great Amber, and Nobles with access and authority to the bank."

Magtatanong pa sana ako pero biglang bumukas yung pinto at nanlaki yung mata ko nang makita si Clinton. Dala pa n'ya yung cat carrier. .

"You're supposed to be on our last period." Puna ko nang matingnan yung oras.
