38. The Roads Could Diverge Now

He was on tour and she was being swarmed by the pressure to tie the knot. No, not time tested, just some seemingly nice dude from somewhere.

Zen wasn't the kind to stand it and so she began putting in extra hours to avoid being at home. Her days off she was in a dance studio or sporting out on a court.

She knew her mother was getting worried, but she had done this as a young teen too - staying away at least gave her breathing space for a while.

But it wasn't just her mother who noticed. Leah and Azia knew their calls and texts were going unanswered, but most of all he felt it.

HIM

They normally didn't have a daily conversation, but they tried to be as frequent. Yet he saw how she was hardly online anymore and it had him working himself up.

With ages of being on tour and working long hours, he just waited, staring at the map of her schedules he had once made.

He caught her going offline and immediately had to call her - totally unaware of how his bare face would be on screen. He plced the phone aside and waited.

"Hm...? Hello..."

She sounded sleepy and that had him check his watch and run some calculations in his head.

It's not night...

Is she thaaaat... drained...

He picked his phone up instantly watching his face flush a bright peach.

"H-hey... sorry... I..."

She chuckled a little and he looked away.

"It's alright..

You can leave it on...

Fine... I'll put mine on too..."

"No screenshots..."

She chuckled again.

"None at all..."

"Thank you..."

"We've never been on a video call before... the calls got okay..."

"I'm sorry.... I-"

"Hey...

Why are you apologising... you didn't even realise it yourself... and no... it's okay..."

She gave a smileand adjusted her position.

"I still didn't mean to... well..."

"A-h yeah... as to why... you... have been distant..."
