Chapter 56 - The cost

It happened that immediately my husband returned to the palace, he had two guards drag Sangyun to the beobmubu hol, where they're going to cut off his left hand that had injured me and he knows this because ..well everybody knows that Sangyun is a lefty.

Immediately I entered the palace, I was startled by the amount of people gathering here, it was as if we are at war ..except they aren't with any weapons but the guards.

I started looking for my husband everywhere but I couldn't find him, I don't care about what he's going to do to Sangyun but I do care about what he will do to Min Yong-hwan because it's not his fault that he wasn't there when Sangyun begin hurting me at first.

"Did you see him?" I asked Jandi as she walked up to me but she shakes her head no and begin taking me to the hall where Sangyun is being punished with a smile on her face. She's really happy that Sangyun is getting punished.

"Kyung-sook thinks the Emperor is going to kill her son and she's panicking like crazy ..me and Ji-Ae saw her at the Emperor's front door kneeling while pleading for him to forgive her poor boy because he's just stupid sometimes, not knowing that she's speaking to an empty room. It was her daughter who came, told her that the Emperor isn't in and now they're heading to the beobmubu hol with a determined look. Kyung-sook is mad and I wonder what she'll do now.." Jandi said excitedly.

As we entered the hall, I noticed no Kyung-sook presence ..I look at Jandi with a wary look.

"I thought she was heading towards here ..well at least we will get to see Sangyun being punished." Jandi said and the said Sangyun is actually being punished, not that I doubted it but ..cutting his hand off, this is a very hard punishment and a scary one for me to watch.

I watch as the two guards place a screaming Sangyun hand on an iron metal craft that's designed to hold things in place but to them, it's designed to hold either humans head, legs or hands separately from the rest of a person's body.

After they placed his hands in between the steel, the dark guard begin buckling it into place to prevent Sangyun's hands from moving then the other guards gets ready to cut it off.

I noticed two things different about this trail ..there is no Elder Baek Sunghyun, to read out this offender's crime and nobody is even explaining this situation to the confused crowd who doesn't know why this is happening and that's when I realized that it's true ..what they said, I am the outcast who stole the Emperor's heart but I'm no witch though.

I take in a deep breath when the guard raise his machete up then breathe out when he place it back on its holder .."oh, he's just practicing." I said to no one in particular but Jandi grabbed it.

"No, he isn't ..it's that Kyung-sook devil again." Jandi said which made me turn my attention back to the scene and indeed they stopped because of her ..she's saying something.
