The zombies marched slowly towards us, making us wonder if we would die by their filthy hands and rotten mouths. Yet, when they charged, they avoided all of our disciplines and instead attacked the Wen members, only.
Cheng stood up along with Wangji, seeing the event unfold in front of our own eyes. I stayed where I was, slowly recovering my energy. I was terrified. I will not lie. Such dark sorcery was not even heard of, yet the mysterious flute player controlled it as if it was nothing.
"They are only...killing Wen's men" Cheng pointed out, equal surprised and shocked.
I gave a nod, but I couldn't help and wonder...why? Why attack only the Wen members and not us? And when the attack was over, who would tell us we would not be the next targets of the zombies?
I wasn't sure, and as I swallowed; I felt my throat dry. The darkness everywhere overwhelmed my senses, and even though I was unharmed, I still felt threatened. I had never witnessed such power, such supernatural massacre.
"He is a man with evil ways..." Wangji started, looking up at the mysterious figure who kept playing the haunting tune. "But...he seems to be a friend, not an enemy."
Cheng chuckled in satisfaction. "I don't care how he does it. If he kills Wen's men, he is my ally!"
I glanced at him, feeling uneasy by such bold statements. Just because we had a common enemy, didn't mean we would instantly be allies. As I tried to stand, a hand was offered to me.
Looking up, I saw it belonged to Wangji, who kept his eyes on the form of the mysterious cultivator. Taking his offer, he helped me stand, and despite the pain in my muscles, I kept standing.
I watched around us as one by one the Wen fell, their blood flowing across the sky and staining the ground below. Wen Zhuliu was the only one capable of fighting, using his abilities to hit one zombie after the other.
However, there were too many and those who escaped headed towards Wen Chao.
Screaming like a little child, he begged for help as he ran the opposite direction. His attempt was cut short when someone grabbed his legs and tricked him. Turning to face the obstacle, Chao paled at the sight of the zombified girlfriend of his.
She attacked, and he blocked with his elbow. Her teeth pierced his robes and his flesh, his blood flowing like a river. He managed to free himself and backed away until he was one with the half-destroyed wall.
"Wen Zhuliu! Help me!" he shouted as the zombie approached him.
With malic in her lifeless eyes, she marched towards him. Despite the wrinkled and sucked dry skin, her large chest had survived. Before she could injure him more, Wen Zhuliu's hand slammed against her cheek and sent her to the side.
It barely affected her as she turned her head 180 degrees and stood up. Then, her body turned and was back to normal, or as normal as it could be. I watched in horror, unable to blink or move.
I never liked the woman, but even I felt bad for seeing her turned into such a puppet. How she turned into a zombie...I didn't know, but I didn't want to learn either.
My shock slowly passed away as the flute stopped. There was an eerie silence for a moment, all the zombies standing still like abandoned puppets with know string-master. Turning my head slightly to the side, my eyes widened.
The mysterious figure levitated towards the ground, dark energy surrounding and carrying him as if he was some dark god, exiled from the heavens above. His red eyes glowed dangerously and as he landed; he wasted no time in walking towards the duo.
