Time loop (Greenflame)

PoV Kai
I woke up this morning and it was like every day.

I washed my face, got dressed and walked into the kitchen.

Zane and Misako were making breakfast, Nya was drinking tea at the table, caught in a conversation with Cole.

I yawned, then smiled.

"Good morning!"

Then I sat down.

Zane handed me the coffee.

"You look like you didn't sleep much. Those bags under your eyes have bags", Cole mumbled the last part more to himself than to me.

I shrugged.

Now that he said it, I was tired. What did I do last night?

"Morning babe", Lloyd yawned.

He hugged me from behind.

Then he sat down next to me.

It was an average day, untill it wasn't.

They attacked quickly and without mercy, killed everyone in their way, but we fought back.

Suddenly I heard a loud scream, just as I pushed a warrior of and burned the Undead man to ashes.

Loud was on the ground, bleeding badly as a warrior leaned over him to stab him again and kill him.

I wouldn't let that happen. I smashed into the man and he stumbled away, but immediately attacked me.

I yelled for Zane to help Lloyd, as the Nindroid wasn't far away, and pushed the Undead creature further towards the cliff I was facing.

Suddenly the ship was in view and Zane grabbed Lloyd, to climb up.

The others were already up there, so I followed.

We thought we were save, but suddenly some of the Undead jumped onto the ship.

We pushed them down, burned them, electrocuted them and did everything we could to keep them away from us.

Suddenly they jumped off the ship.

I had a weird, bad feeling and immediately turned to Lloyd.

He wasn't breathing anymore.

Suddenly everything went black.

"Lloyd, you're alive!", I screamed happily and hugged him so hard, we almost fell to the ground.

"Well, of course I am, why wouldn't I?" , he laughed.

Right. Why wouldn't he?

"Kai, did you have a bad dream?", Cole asked. I nodded slowly, but I wasn't even sure.

Suddenly we heard an alarm.

We immediately got into our suits and were on our way.

A cliff had grown through a field, not far from the city.

Creatures that didn't look fully human or fully alive crawled out if it.

They attacked quickly and without mercy, killed everyone in their way, but we fought back.

Suddenly I heard a loud scream of pain.

I soon found myself on the ship, surrounded by half dead creatures, don't ask how I got there, I honestly don't know.

Suddenly everything went black.

I woke up and remembered everything clearly.

"Morning Kai", Lloyd suddenly said. Now I was confused, very confused.

The same thing seemed to repeat itself day after day. Day after day I saw Lloyd die, but it became weirder and full of holes, even though I started to remember things more clearly.

So I came up with a plan. I would change my position in the battle and kill the creature before it could attack Lloyd.

So that's what I did.

Suddenly I heard a pain filled scream. I knew that voice. Nya.

I was tired. Tired of the timeloop I was caught in. Like, universe! What the fuck?!

But I had figured out a solution.

I had figured out, that one of my crew mates died in the battle, no matter what I did, but this could save all of them!

Yeah. This should work.

PoV Lloyd
I knelt in front of his grave sobbing. "Why him?", I sniffed towards the sky.

Kai had died in a battle against some stupid undead creatures.

I had send everyone to the ship in the batlle, but when we all were up there, he wasn't.

I couldn't stop him. I couldn't help him. Kai burned the creatures and himself to ashes.

He died a hero.

I looked at the writing on the stone again.

In cursive letters it read:

"To rank a hero, don't count the people he rescued. Count the ones he wasn't able to save. (Schildtoete)"

Kai had chosen this sentence. It almost felt like he knew he would die in that battle...
