Chapter 3: Helpless

That woman was standing beside Rose. She was holding a basket full of flowers. Same grinning face.

"What's wrong Rose?" David asked Rose.

"How many times do I have to tell you not to let the fridge left open!" Rose gave David an angry look, pointing towards the fridge.

Shit! I forgot to close the fridge this morning.

"I swear honey I didn't." David defended himself.

Did Rose shout because of that reason? Not by seeing that woman? Was that woman only visible to me? Otherwise the couple would have reacted after seeing that strange woman. Before I could think of anything that woman disappeared. She disappeared as if she wasn't even there. I was losing my mind.

The couple plated the food and started eating. I was so hungry but I couldn't do anything. Silently I sat on the sofa and watched them eat. After eating Rose did the dishes and David cleaned the floor where the pieces of vase were scattered.

After finishing their work, they switched off all the lights and went upstairs. I was left alone in darkness. I was cold and hungry. But all I could do was nothing. So many things happened in just a day. I was tired. I laid on the sofa wondering what was happening with me.

"Luna." once again I got chills all over my body. I already knew whose voice it was and I hated that feeling. I couldn't see her as the room was dark. Within moments I felt as if someone was sitting beside me.

I got up and ran upstairs. I was going to die. That lady ghost was going to kill me. I couldn't help myself but cry. I sat outside my parent's room and started crying. I was helpless. My end was near. What if that ghost killed my parents too?

Moments later the door was opened. The couple came out, it looked like they were searching for something.

"I'm sure I heard someone crying." Rose said. She looked terrified.

"Here is no one." David made sure.

Did they hear me cry? Or was it that ghost?

Before they closed the door again, I went inside with them. The couple laid on the bed and I sat on the floor. It was better than staying alone in the living room.

I was looking at Rose. She was trying her best to sleep. She was reminding me of my mama. I was sure of one thing; the couple was not able to see me. Or let's say I was invisible to them because I knew they were good people. They wouldn't have ignored a little girl like me. If they were bad people, they could have easily harmed me.

The main questions were why was I invisible to them and where were my parents? Was it all that lady ghost's doing? Was she behind everything?

"David wake up." Rose panicked all of sudden, bringing me back to reality.

"What happened?" David asked, lighting the room.

"Someone is staring at me." Rose said turning to me, she was already losing her mind.

"You're just tired." David hugged her and calmed her down. Within minutes both of them fell asleep.

I too laid on the floor and fell asleep without realizing.

Next day I was up really early. The couple was still sleeping. I looked at the table clock, it was 4:24 am. I had to get out of the room and the house. I couldn't stay there doing nothing. I decided to go to my neighbor's house and ask about my parents.

"But you are invisible" My sub conscious mind reminded me.

Maybe I'll be visible once I go out. I can't stay here doing nothing. But how to get out of the room?

I was just staring at the door, thinking of a way to open it. And for my surprise it opened by itself, just like the way the fridge opened. Did I gain some super powers?

Before I even wondered how, I heard Rose shouting "Aaaaaa!!!" David woke up getting startled by Rose's scream.

Shit! Maybe Rose saw me opening the door. No, she didn't see me, she just saw the door opening all by itself, which was creepier.

Poor Rose couldn't even speak. She was all sweating and panicking. David hugged her tightly and told her everything was okay.

"TH..E DOOOR OOPENED B—Y ITSEL—F !!" Rose stammered.

"It's just wind." David said, even though he knew it wasn't by wind. At that moment handling Rose was his priority over anything.

I felt very bad for them. Rose looked sick and David looked helpless.

"I'll call the doctor." David took his phone and dialed a number.

Rose was clam than before but still she looked pale. She was hugging David very tightly. I was sitting on the corner facing the floor. I was feeling very guilty even though I had no idea who opened the door. But I was blaming myself for everything.

The silence was broken by the doorbell.

Rose nearly shouted but David calmed her saying it was just a doorbell.

"I'll go and open the door." David tried to get out of the bed.

"No please don't leave me alone." Rose begged.

"I'll be back in a minute with the doctor." David kissed on her forehead and left.

I thought about testing my super powers on the front door but again dropped the idea. I couldn't let another person faint.

Rose closed her eyes and started chanting something. Within minutes David arrived with a doctor.

Oh god! That doctor! I know that doctor. He was mama's doctor. He used to come here when mama was pregnant. He must know where my parents were. But how do I ask him?

David told him everything that happened from last night. The doctor checked Rose's condition and concluded "it's due to over working." He gave her an injection and told her to take care.

"Call me if anything happens." The doctor said and got up. David too got up but Rose didn't let him leave.

"It's okay. I've been here before." The doctor smiled and left the room. I followed him. I had to talk to him. All of sudden he stopped in the middle of stairs and turned around. 

Did he too felt as if someone was following him? Why was everyone feeling my presence but not seeing me?

The doctor continued walking down and I continued following him. We went out from the front door and reached the front yard.

The doctor opened the main gate and stepped out. Then something strange happened. I couldn't step outside the gate. I felt as if a strong energy was pulling me backwards. No matter how much I tried to go against it, I couldn't. I couldn't cross the gate.

The doctor got inside his car and drove away right in front of my eyes. I lost a chance to know about my parents. Tears started to fall. Once again, I was helpless.
