Chapter 4: Regrets!

The guilt inside me didn't let me go inside the house. I already caused them so much trouble, not anymore. Even though I never intended on hurting them, they had to suffer because of me. I had to maintain the distance with them for their own sake. With a heavy heart I went inside the store room.

My old toys were lying there lifelessly, just like me. I felt very bad for them, for the couple and for myself too. I took one of my teddy bear and hugged it. I spent the whole day there, thinking of those four things:

1. Why was I invisible?

2. Why and How did I get those super powers?

3. Where were my parents?

4. Who was that lady?

Slowly the day light was being replaced by darkness. I had to switch on the light but the switch was too high for me to reach. Then I decided to try my super powers. I stared at the blub for few seconds and whispered "light!" and the room was all bright. I actually got super powers. I smiled at that. But I promised with myself not to use it whenever I was around the couple.

Two days passed in the storeroom doing nothing. I didn't even step out from the storeroom. I was neither hungry nor thirsty, which I believed were the side effects of gaining super powers.

On the third day at dusk I heard the backdoor opening. I peeked through the window. The couple was on the backyard. Rose looked fine. She was laughing with David.

"I never knew we had a swing here." Rose cheerfully said.

Even I forgot we had a swing. Dad surprised me with it on my 5th birthday.

"slowly okay!" Rose sat on the swing and David pushed it. They were enjoying a lot. It felt so good to watch them happy. I too wanted to go there and ride the swing but decided not to.

Maybe after an hour they went inside the house. It was getting dark. Then I had the sudden urge to ride the swing. I tried so hard to stop myself but couldn't. Slowly I peeked outside from the window. The backyard was empty and the kitchen's light was already off. Maybe the couple called it a day.

I stepped out of the storeroom. The cold air passed through me, it felt like ages since I enjoyed fresh air. I walked towards the swing. I wanted to ride it so badly. I sat on the swing and started swinging. Memories from years ago were vivid in my eyes.

"Happy Birthday Lulu." Dad woke me up kissing me on my forehead.

"Thank You Papa" I hugged him.

"Happy Birthday my baby." Mom entered with a big teddy in her hand. I jumped with joy seeing that.

"It's from mama." Mama said and handed me the teddy.

"Where's my gift?" I turned to papa.

"I forgot it in the backyard." He grinned. I gave him a cruel look and ran to the window to see my birthday gift.

"It's the swinggg!!" I shouted.

"Thank youuu PAPAA!!!" I shouted on the top of my lungs.

I was the happiest person on earth. I couldn't control myself. I ran downstairs like a crazy person, both mama papa followed me.

Dad made me sit on it and started swinging whereas mom watched us leaning on the backdoor. Both dad and I were facing mama.

Slowly mama's face turned into someone else's face. Shit! It was Rose! I stopped swinging as I saw Rose staring at me. I didn't realize she was there. I was so busy remembering my past. She was looking into my eyes directly, she was already losing her cool, I knew it just by looking at her face.

"David!!" She shouted and David came running.

"I s-a-w someo-n-e on t-h-e swing." Rose managed to say. She was shivering and suddenly she fell down. Maybe her knees gave up.

Rose saw me? How? Why so suddenly?

"There is no one." David hugged her.

"I'm sure I saw a little girl on the swing." Rose broke down into tears. David lifted her and went inside the house.

Rose must have come down to play. I freaked her out. Wait! I didn't do anything to her. Wasn't I invisible? How did she see me?

Still, I felt very bad for her. She was smiling and laughing after so many days and I spoiled it again. I regretted coming out. With a heavy heart I went inside the storeroom and slept.

Next day I went out with the sound of people talking. Silently I went to the front yard. The couple was keeping their belongings inside the car. Maybe they were moving out. Some new faces were there, talking with them. I went nearer to hear their conversation. I know it's bad but I had to, it was important.

"Why so sudden?" A man asked David.

"We just found a new flat, and its near to our office." David lied. I knew I was the reason why they were leaving. After all last night was a disaster. Giving the keys to those people, David and Rosy drove away.

Who were those people? Did my parents too moved away by selling the house? No way! This house meant the world to mama and papa, they would never sell the house. If that was the case where were my parents? Why weren't they in the house?

Those new faces too drove away after few minutes. I sighed and walked towards the main gate to check if I could cross it. But sadly, I couldn't. The same energy pulled me backward and I couldn't move ahead.

Disappointed me went to the backyard and then realized I had the whole home for myself. I confidently opened the backdoor (you know how) and went inside. I directly went to my room.

"Open!" I whispered looking at the door and it opened.

MY ROOM, how much I missed it. Everything was exactly how I left. That meant the house was not sold to anyone. The thought of mama papa coming back brought a smile on lips. I laid on my bed, my own bed. God knows after how long. And without realizing I felt asleep. Nothing is more comfortable than your own bed.

A week passed doing nothing. All I did was laid on my bed. Yes, a whole week. Well I didn't count the days but it felt like a week, so we can call it a week. Somedays I cried missing my parents and other days I smiled with the hope of them coming back.

Then one night I got up from my bed because something caught my attention. It was the sound of ambulance. The sound was coming from the front yard. What was an ambulance doing at such a late hour?
