The Shukla family was at the dinning table for dinner. All were happy hearing about Sana's pregnancy. Sana was sitting besides Sid.
Baba: Sana beta tumko aise akele nhi aana chahiye tha. Maine Siddharth ko kaha tha tumhe jaake lana hai. Fir yeh kyu hua?? Next time aise without informing travel nhi karna hai beta.
Sana: Sorry baba. Next time nhi hoga.
Baba: Siddharth tumhe bhi khayaal rakhna chahiye tha. Why did she take a cab when you were at home?? Apni responsibilities ko acche se nibhana hota hai beta.
Siddharth: Jee baba. Dhyaan rakhunga.
Baba: Ab zimmedaari badne wali hai. Take proper care of her.
Siddharth: Ok.
Sana felt bad for Sid. It was not his fault here. In fact it was. Why did he leave her alone in mohali?? She consoled herself. She has not taken anything in her plate yet. She was not feeling like eating anything. The aroma of the masalas made her nauseous.
Uncle: Sana teri plate kyu khaali hai beta?? Chalo shuru karo.
Sana: Ha leti hu uncle.
Sid looked at her plate. She has not had lunch too. He then looked at her face. She was so beautiful yaar. And he loved her so much. His heart skipped a beat. She looked up as if sensing his gaze. Their eyes met. Sid looked away and she looked down at her still empty plate. Sid took a chapati from the bowl and kept it in her plate. He then moved his hand to the bowl of sabzi, but she shook her head. He looked at her and she shook it again. He kept the spoon back in the bowl and shifted it to the bowl of dal. He looked at her again and she nodded her head. He then served her dal. She took a small bite and put it in her mouth. He was watching her eat. He was worried for her. She is not eating properly. I should take her to the doctor, he thought. He took salad and served her. She accepted it. He saw her nibbling over her food.
Maa: Siddharth, beta tera Dubai jaana zaruri hai kya?? Sana aaj he aayi hai. Aur tu agle hafte jaane ke baat kar raha hai. Tuje yaha hona chahiye na.
Sid looked at Maa and then at Sana. Sana had stopped eating and was looking in her plate.
Sid: Jaana hoga Maa. Contract sign kiya hai. Logo ka paisa laga hai. Aise last moment back out nhi kar sakta.
Reet: Par Sana ko bhi to teri zarurat hai Siddharth.
Sid: Mai jaanta hu chachi, par Aap log ho na yaha.
Reet: Hum to hai he. Par tu hota to....
Sid: Aur mujhe weekends off hai. To mai aata rahunga.
Maa::Thek hai beta.
He looked at Sana again she was still looking in her plate toying with her food.
Sid: Sana??
She looked up at him. He could see tears forming in her eyes.
Sid: Finish kar plate me jo hai.
She looked down and started eating again. He wanted to hug her so badly. He was missing her soft body against him. They both ate quietly. They had all shifted to the hall after dinner. It has always been the tradition in the family that all the family members would shift to the hall after having dinner together every night and talk about their day. It would be fun all the time. Would get solutions to the problems if any. In this way the family was knitted together. They all were too happy today. Ruhi and Viju was just talking about the baby.
Sana had a fake smile plastered over her face all the time. She felt broken from inside. He is going away again. Why can't this man let me live in peace at least for some days. She wanted to go to the room and cry. Sid was gazing at her sitting on the sofa opposite to her. He recognises all the emotions on her face. He knew she was upset after hearing about him going to Dubai.
Sana: Maa mai jaau. Mujhe thoda letna hai.
Maa: Ha ha beta. Jaa aaraam kar tu. Aur aise baithna zaruri nhi hai agar tu thek nhi feel kar rahi hai to.
Sana: Are aise kuch nhi Maa. Mujhe bhi baithna tha aap sab ke sath.
Maa: Nahi beta ab tu jaa. Aur tune khaana nhi khaaya hai thek se. Mai tere leye dudh bhej rahi hu. Pe lena.
Sana: Thek hai Maa.
Sid saw, her leaving the hall. He knew she will go and cry now. She has not even had dinner properly.
Sid: Maa Sana kuch thek se khaati nhi hai. Kya karna chahiye??
Maa: Beta maine Reet ko bola hai. Tum aur Reet usse kal doctor ke pass le jaao. Reet appointment le legi.
Sid: Thek hai Maa.
Maa: Aur uske leye Suresh ko bolkar dudh le jaa. Abhi bhi kuch nhi khaaya hai usne. Aur pila dena usko.
Sid: Jee Maa.
Sid walked to the kitchen, took the milk and went to his room. Thankfully when he entered he saw her curled up and sleeping on her side of the bed rather than the sofa. She must have heard him come in the room and curled some more hiding her face in the pillow.
Sid: Sana yeh dudh laya hu tere leye. Chal uth aur pee le.
She did not say anything.
Sid: Suna tune??
Sana: Nahi chahiye.
Sid: Maa ne kaha hai ke agar tu na piye to mai unhe bulaau.
She removed the pillow from her face. Her eyes were swollen and nose red. She got up, took the milk from him, drank half of it giving it back to him. He wanted to pull her to him and kiss her eyes, her nose, her lips. The urge was so strong he folded his fingers into a fist.
Sana: Bas.
Sid: Par...
Sana: Mujhe vomit ho jaayegi
Sid: Thek hai.
She sat up popping the pillow behind her. Sid's phone buzzed. He went to the balcony. It was Pari.
Sid: Tu kyu chali gayi. Yahi rehti na thode din.
Pari: Bhai Adi ke mummy ko bhi thek nhi hai. Mai to Sana ke aane ka sun ke aa gayi the. Aaungi thode dino baad.
Sid: Thek hai.
Pari: Sana kaisi hai??
Sid: Kuch kha nhi paa rahi hai vo. Kal chachi doctor se appointment lene wali hai.
Pari: Khayaal rakho bhai uska. Jo ho gaya hai usse bhul jaao. Aap uske leye kitna tadpe ho bhai. Ab jab vo aapki hai, to usse dur mat hone do aapne aap se.
Sid: Bahot pyaar karta hu yaar mai usse. Par dar lagta hai mujhe uska.
Pari started laughing.
Pari: Bhai aap ko bhi dar lagta hai?? Sana ko to award milna chahiye. Aap ko dara ke rakha hai.
Sid: Chup kar. Mera matlab vo nhi tha.
Pari: Ab matlab ka mujhe nhi maalum. Par Adi yeh sunkar bahot khush hoga.
Sid: Khabardaar agar Tu ne usse bataaya to. Mazaak udayega Pari vo mera.
Pari laughed out loud and disconnected the call. Sid came in the room and saw Sana was lying on the bed with her eyes closed. The lamp on her side of the bed was switched off. He went to the bathroom changed into his comfortable shorts and t- shirts and came out. He heard Sana sobbing hiding her face in the pillow.
He went to his side of the bed. He was scared. But he still pulled her towards him. She willingly went into his arms and started crying. He pulled her tighter, soothing her back. No words were required here. His touch said it all. And now she was home.
