*I suggest listening to Smile while reading this chapter!*
When we get back to Ross' house, we go in his room and he grabs his guitar and starts playing it. I don't recognize the song that he's playing.
"Is that a new song?" I ask him as I lay down on his bed.
"Yeah. It's called 'Smile'. It comes out next week." He answers.
"Can I hear it?"
"Sure. It sounds better when all five of us are singing it, but I'll sing it anyways."
He starts playing the song and singing.
"I love it." I tell him when he's done with the song.
"Thanks. I thought of you when we were writing it 'cause I love making you smile."
And of course as soon as he said that, I smiled.
"Just like that." He says.
"Hey Ross, can you come here for a minute?!" Stormie yells from downstairs.
"I'll be right back." Ross tells me as he's walking out of his room.
While I'm waiting for Ross to come back, I go on Twitter on my phone.
As I'm scrolling through Twitter, someone calls me. I don't know the number, so I nervously answer it.
"Hello?" I answer.
"Chelsea?"
My eyes widen at who is on the other end.
"Dad?"
"Yeah, it's me." He says. "I got a new number."
"That's great. Now why did you call me?" I ask unenthusiastically.
"I just wanted to say that I'm sorry." He begins.
Woah, did he just say that?
"I'm sorry that I didn't listen to you, or the rest of the family when I started seeing Rachael. I don't know why I stayed with her for as long as I did. She ruined all my relationships with everyone and I hate that I let it happen." He finishes.
"Where's all this coming from?"
"I wanted to come out to California to visit you and possibly see one of your shows, and when I told this to Rachael, she told me that 'I'd be wasting my time and money going to see that worthless piece of trash.' That's when I knew I needed to leave her."
A comment like that would normally hurt me, but I've heard it from her so many times now that it's normal.
"Okay, but why are you suddenly defending me? You never did when I was younger and she would say something like that to me."
"I know and I'm sorry. I guess it took me losing you to figure out that I missed out on so much of your life because of her. She's forced me to miss your choir concerts and sporting events, I didn't even go to your concert when you were in town with R5. I regret all of it, if I could go back and do it over, I would."
"You know what dad, I wouldn't change the past if I was able to. You can't just all of a sudden change your mind about Rachael. You had your chance to chose, and you chose her over your own daughter. If you really cared about me and regret things, you'd stay out of my life." I say and hang up, not giving him a chance to respond.
I lay down on Ross' bed and bury my face into his pillow; I can't help but cry.
When I get mad, I cry, I can't help it. I'm also a little hurt, so that doesn't help either.
Ross comes back into his room a few seconds later.
"Chels, what's wrong?" He asks me as he sits down on his bed.
"I just got off the phone with my dad." I cry.
I roll over and sit up, so I'm leaning against the wall.
"I thought you blocked his number?"
"He got a new one. And he finally got a divorce from Rachael and he wants back into my life. I don't want that and I told him."
"Honestly, I don't blame you. I wouldn't want to be involved with my dad if he let someone treat me like that." Ross says putting his arm around me.
I snuggle my face into his side. There's a few minutes of silence, other than me trying to calm down.
Ross kisses the top of my head.
"I love you so much." He says.
"I love you too."
