"I swear to god, if you my cras...."

"Yeah, yeah I heard you the first time." River said with smirk before she took off.

                                                               •••

River got off the bike with a satisfied grin,"That was awesome. I told you I was good driver."

"We almost got run over by a car but yeah... at least you didn't crash it." Logan smiled,"wait here." He said before he ran to his house. He ran back carrying a blanket and two cans of soda. He hands one to River and laid out the blanket.

River waited for Logan to sit first before she set across, further from Logan.

"You can relax. I don't bite." Logan stared into the sparkling lake noticing her actions and slightly hurt by them but understanding.

"Are you sure about that?" River asked jokingly.

Logan laughed revealing his white straight sharp teeth,"I'm sure." He assured, looking at her.

River took at a moment to stare. He seemed tense and his eyes held worry and sadness. She had a sudden urge to take it away. Today he wore a simple forearm length white T-shirt and simple black jeans.

"What are you?" River blurted out.

"A hunter." He simple answered as he went back to staring at the sea.

"You told me that." River said,"but hunters I know...don't have the speed that you have and the strength to kill a human feeding vampire."

"There is so much you don't know, River. You can't possibly begin to understand."

"How will I? If you won't tell me." River begged.

"I wish I can River. I really do but I can't." Logan frowned desperate for River to understand.

"Why?"

"I can't say."

River stared down, frowning,"Than what can you tell me. Logan please. Don't shut out, not you too."

Logan melted as he looked into River's curious and desperate eyes,"fine but you have I can't tell you everything. If I say I can't say, you understand and move on." He repeated.

River nodded preparing herself,"That guy last night."

"He was a vampire. He was looking for his next meal and attacked me." Logan explained,"unfortunately for him, he picked the wrong guy."

"How did you...?" River asked hesitated.

"Manage to kill him." Logan finished for her as he looked down,"hunters have enhanced abilities strength, speed, sight, smell, everything. They have special abilities, a spell on them that was placed by witches." Logan said.

"Wait witches?"

"Yes. They are really good at hiding now. So it's rare to encounter  one randomly but some like to live their lives in peace among humans. Only a few know about them."

"Why is that?"

"Well a long time ago humans were caught between a war of vampires and werewolves. Human turned on witches and believed to have created them, so they began to hunt them down and killed them."

"Like the Salem trails?" River said thoughtfully.

"Yes, some where witches but not all of them."

"Why did they believe they caused the war?"

"Witches are powerful creatures, that can communicate with forces beyond us." Logan said. "Vampire and werewolves were always natural enemies, even before they were created. Humans believed witches created them. Have you seen these two fight." Logan said,"it's a blood bath." He explained,"it's only natural they turned on them."

"Why were they created?"

"I can't say."

"How do you know this."

"I can't say."

"Did witches really create vampires and werewolves?" River asked curiously.

Logan stared at her,"I..I can't say.."

River groaned,"How about you?"

"Me. Werewolves fought a losing battle so witches created hunters. They still lost. Almost went existent."

River looked at Logan up and down. He looked like a human but clearly from last night, he had immense strength.

Logan chuckled,"I know it sounds ridiculous but it's the truth. There used to be many hunters, witches as well as werewolves. Vampires hunt them and slaughter them in the early thousands. Now they are rare to find and the rest were killed."

"You keep refer hunters to third person, what about you?"

"Certainly different from others. I wasn't creatures by witches. " Logan silently begged river to stop asking questions,"I've already said too much, River. That's all I can say, I'm sorry."

River looked down for a while,"you mentioned something about your father being out of control thirst for blood. It means he was vampire are you a half breed."

"Something like that." Logan got up to leave,"I'll understand if you don't ever want to talk to me ever again."

River stared at his retreating form,"wait!" She yelled before getting up to her feet,"I don't want not to ever talk to you ever again. " River blurted out without even realising it,"I'm saying I'll stay if you agree to teach me everything you know. I need you to be part of my life. But only if you let me."

                                                              •••

"hunt? I thought your flight was leaving this afternoon." Logan frowned.

"I can still cancel."

"River, its not that simple. Usually ends in death." Logan said carefully to make River understood the consequences of what she was asking him.

"Teach me how to fight. Teach me how to defend myself. I know something...someday will come for me. I want to be prepared. I need to be ready."

"What do you mean?"

River remembered when she was cornered by Victoria,"being what I am, I'll eventually make enemies who want to abuse this power. I can't let that happen."

"And what are you exactly?"

"A vampire-shapeshifter-human trybrid, possibly a witch."

Logan's eyes widen before they rolled in annoyance,"you just had to be all them."

"I didn't choose this." River said,"recent events have made me believe I might be a witch.."

Logan raised his arms,"that's just peachy. A cherry on top. You shouldn't have lived this long. No hunter knows or heard about you. How and where have you been hiding yourself?"

"I don't know."

"And you do realise the difficult place you're putting me in. I can't let you leave. Being what you are. I'm sorry River I have to kill you." Logan frowned sadly.

River jumped from her sit on the blanket,"what? I've never harmed or killed a soul in my life."

"But you could in future." Logan with dark, hateful eyes from last night walked up to her,"I'm sorry River but it has to be this way. Many will use your power for no evil. That's why I can't allow you to live."

River cried,"No Logan."
