Music Review : "Chocolate Pomegranate" by Ari Lennox
Ari Lennox has released a single titled, "Chocolate Pomegranate" on 30 September 2020. There are important facts to consider about the single. One of them is the relevance of the title of the single. The word, "pomegranate" means a round, red fruit that has a thick skin and many large seeds (Merriam-Webster Dictionary). Therefore, it explains why on the album cover, there is a pomegranate which seems to have chocolate surrounding it.

What is the meaning behind the song? According to Amanda London on the Song Meaning and Facts Website, she has asserted that it is a love song with very strong sensual themes. Whereas Kalen Murphy on Ear Milk Website stated that the lyrics describe a flame between two lovers that could either wither away if they accept it for what it is. For instance in the lyrics she said, "...No one's gonna ride and love you like I do,ooh-ooh / Oh, chocolate pomegranate, come live in this truth..." Ari Lennox is known to make songs that are about intimacy, love and that her voice has been compared to Erykah Badu. However what makes this track, different and intriguing is the beat. As stated by Kalen Murphy, Elite incorporates the signature jazz brass in her music that sets up the song's outro. Moreover Murphy asserts that, "What very interesting is the new territory he marks for her with an electro-funk production in this latest release". Therefore, the genre is jazz and electro-funk.
From my point of view, the genre, jazz and electro-funk brings out a calm and relaxing effect. Furthermore,the beat remains consistent probably to maintain the mood between two lovers who do not want the flame between to fade away. It is sort of like they are on cloud 9.
Lastly there is a possible reason why the words, "chocolate" and "pomegranate" are put together to form "chocolate pomegranate." It could be that the chocolate represents Ari Lennox's lover while pomegranate is Ari Lennox. Therefore, they are inseparable just like "chocolate pomegranate. They do not want this flame (their love) to fade away. Their love is sweet just like "chocolate pomegranate". Therefore the track is basically about two lovers expressing their feelings.
