"What are you doing?"
I lower the children's book a little to look at my sister giggling at me. I put a hand on the top part of my belly where this young man has started punching and say, "I'm reading what books are best to read to a child. Blake said that it's important to have everything ready for your child. Even their education, according to his nerd books, of course."
My sister sits in front of me now on the floor. She lightly puts her finger at the top of my book and lowers it down to see my face. "You don't have to do that. I bet so many things will happen once your kid is five."
"You're right," I say as I throw the book to one side. "I hate Dr. Seuss anyways."
"Don't let any kid hear that," Amy says as she looks around the library. "Let's go somewhere else."
"Why?"
Amy rolls her eyes at me. "I promise I won't laugh this time when you struggle to get up."
"Who says I'm struggling to get up?" I quickly get up with all my strength and I nearly lose my balance. Amy quickly takes a hold of me before I fall and he punches strongly at my belly. "Okay. Sorry..." I say to him as I rub my hand on my belly.
Amy gives my belly a rub of her own and says, "Let's get you something to eat."
"Say no more," I say as my stomach happily replies. We start towards the exit when my phone vibrates in my back pocket. I take it out to see Ryan's number on my phone. That's weird. He should know that I don't work today.
I answer and he immediately says, "Where is Blake?"
I furrow my brows at this and I gesture to my sister to wait a second just outside the entrance. "What do you mean? He isn't at work?"
"No. He was supposed to be here for a meeting and he's not here! Where is he?!"
Worry crosses my heart at these words. "I...don't know. I haven't heard from him either."
Ryan does a long sigh over the phone. "Fine. I'll just have to continue on with the meeting. When you do find him, tell him to come by my office first thing in the morning!" He hangs up furiously and I put my phone back with surprise at what I just heard.
"What happened?" my sister says to me this time.
"Ryan just called. He said he can't find Blake anywhere. He was supposed be there for a meeting."
"Uh oh. Is that a bad sign?"
I shrug at her. "I'm not sure. With everything that's going on right now, anything could happen. I'm going to look for him before Ryan thinks of firing him. I'll see you later, sis."
Amy looks up from her phone and frowns. "But didn't you want to eat first?"
"No. I'm not that hungry anyways." It's a good thing I'm farther away from my sister now as my stomach does a long loud growl at me.
"Um...okay." I notice that she looks back at her phone and worry crosses her soft eyes. She quickly waves at me and starts to go to her car. When I can't hear her anymore, she starts to talk to someone on the phone with that worrying shine.
But I don't focus on that now as I look for Blake. The first thought that comes to me is that he is probably at our building. When I get there, I'm not in the mood to climb all those metal steps especially with a hungry baby kicking inside of me. So I look around the streets for any sign of his car.
I find none.
I do a sigh and start towards his house. Whatever you're up to, Blake, it better be worth it.
