I open the door of my house and see Abi standing there.
She gives me a small smile and says, "Hey chef. I was wondering if you have any room for us tonight?" She puts a hand on her large belly and I give her a tender smile.
"Come on in, my love." I open the door for her to enter. The moment I close the door, she does a small shiver and a sad sigh.
This must be because of her mother.
Along the week since my birthday, she's been coping with her mother. Once I stepped out of my mother's room with her, I gave her a long kiss and said, "I love you, Abi, and every single part of you...."
She smiled at my kisses on her cheeks and said, "I'm happy to do all of this for my chef."
We started walking towards the exit and I put a soft hand on her back. "Where are you off to, pretty lady?"
"Home. It's about time for my nap." Then she did the same sad sigh and said, "I hope I don't have to bump into my mother..."
I stopped and she turned to tiredly look at me. I caressed her soft cheek and said, "Then why don't you come take a nap at my place? And if you want you can even sleep tonight at my place as well."
Abi hesitated. I don't understand why but I couldn't ask her as she shook her head. "That's alright, baby. I'm sure she's not there since my sister isn't home. Plus. I realized how bad of a sister I've been lately. She's been starving herself because of all that work those doctors put on her! Did you see how she was eating all her cake slices?!"
"I did. I thought she was pregnant, too." She gave me a playful slap on my arm and I laughed loudly.
Yet I couldn't convince her to stay with me. Along the week, she's told me that her mother is trying to talk to her now and she always runs out. She should talk to her before she regrets waiting so long. I should know...
I watch her tiredly take off her small bag across her chest, and she seems a little out of place. I gently hug her from behind and let my hands rub her belly up front. I kiss her soft neck and say, "Do you need anything? Water? Food?"
"I was actually wondering if I could use your kitchen. I came so quickly that I didn't take a snack with me....or extra clothes in that case..."
"Of course," I say. "But you can't use it. I'll cook for you."
"No no," she says tiredly as she makes her way to the kitchen. "You had a long day at work at meetings and all that with Ryan. I don't want to bother you."
I furrow my brows at how much she keeps saying this. I tenderly take her hands and stop her from whatever she was trying to do at my kitchen. I kiss her fingers and say, "You are never a bother for me. When you're here, Daddy cooks!"
She does a small chuckle and the moment my hand lands on her belly, my boy wakes up with excited jumps. I rub at her growling belly and she gives me a small nod. "Okay then. I'll wait at the table."
"You don't want to sit at the sofa instead? It'll be much more comfortable there."
"No. That's okay. I'm afraid that I'll make a mess."
"You won't," I say with a small scoff. "You are the cleanest person I've ever met. Here. Why don't you watch something? Rest up and I'll bring your plate over there; gourmet style."
Abi does a small laugh as I kiss her hand like a princess. "Gosh. I'm flattered, chef."
Her stomach does a loud growl and I know I should start now. I give her a nod and she slowly starts to the living room. Her hand on her back and the other on her belly. I start to make a plate worthy for a late afternoon snack. I make my best sandwiches where I first won a cooking competition in college. It's simple, but very nutritious and tasty. Perfect for my pretty lady right now.
