Chapter 10: Wagah Border

After getting prashad inside the gurdwara, Jash and I headed to the langar hall.

I couldn't help but think of how much we had changed. Two weeks ago, if someone had told me I'd forgive Jash and become his friend, I would've laughed at that person.

After seeing the good hearted side of his, I was ashamed I wasn't his friend earlier.

"I have decided," I concluded.

"What?" he asked confused at my sudden outburst.

"You're hereby instated into my close friends circle that has Rushil and Saloni," I told him solemnly. "The Fiza Circle."

He pretended to be honored. "Is there an initiation ceremony? Are there any perks?"

"You've already passed the initiation test."

"When?"

"When you ditched the deluxe train ride for me—the girl you bullied all of her freshmen year," I said dramatically.

"What about the perks?" he asked interested.

"Only one perk and you won't ask for any more."

"Which is?"

"You get me as your greatest friend," I told him. "What more do you want from life, Dr. Jash?"

He rolled his eyes before laughing along with me.

"One more thing," I said and stopped. "I'm sorry."

He stopped in his tracks too and faced me in confusion.

"I'm sorry for all the times I was mean to you in high school," I said getting it off my chest. I had to address this if he was in my friends circle. "You picked on me for barely a year and stopped when asked to. I resented you, never talked to you even when you tried to the next two years. You didn't deserve that."

He stood motionless, his eyes fixated on my face.

"If you keep staring at me, you'll fall in love." I reiterated his favorite dialogue.

He blinked. "Too late now."

I scoffed at his joke. "Sorry, I'm not diving into any love triangles."

"Don't worry, I prayed today to only end up with the girl I love," he assured me.

Jash was full of surprises.

"Make sure you keep her happy after you get together," I told him firmly. "If she gets hurt even a tiny bit, you're dead meat."

Saloni was practically my sister and I'd go to jail to protect her from idiots.

"What if she hurts me?" He wiggled his eyebrows.

"A happy girlfriend equals a happy life," I said. "It's not hard to please women, Jash. Remember two tips for fights or arguments. One, you're always wrong so make sure to apologize. Two, when you apologize, bring chocolates or ice cream."

"Was that how you and Rushil dated for six years?" he asked.

His question threw me off guard.

He must've realized it too because he quickly added, "I'll try out your tips in the future."

It dawned on me that his question didn't bother me. It came out of nowhere but it didn't make me ache for Rushil.

I hadn't even thought about Rushil all this time.

"Rushil didn't try those tips," I told Jash. "The only reason we got back together every time was due to our parents' intervention. They made us give each other a chance saying we were kids and we just had to work a little harder to make it work."
