Chapter 15: Jaipur?

All of us woke up early next morning to bid goodbyes to Emma, Chynna, and Eric.

Jash, Rushil, Saloni, and I waited for their departure to address the elephant in the room.

When the round of hugs began, Eric hugged me first.

"Give him a chance," he whispered, nodding his head towards Jash. Jash was busy talking to Chynna.

I leaned into Eric's shoulder and whispered back, "You think so?"

He nodded. "You won't regret it."

We promised to keep each other updated on what was going on in our lives.

I hugged Chynna next.

"I wanted to tell you," she said in a lowered voice, referring to Rushil's confession. "But Rush said he'd do it when the time was right."

"How'd you know?" I asked curiously.

"He was the one who threw the first punch at the guy bothering Saloni in Shimla," she said apologetically.

Ah, it made total sense. The secret footage. I assured my heart it was okay, we've had enough of Rushil drama. It was time to move on. The dentist wasn't looking half so bad.

Emma hugged him tightly. "I promise to make it up to you by sending the first Louis Vuitton bag we get. Cool?"

I considered it. "Fine. But you also have to promise another trip somewhere next year."

"Deal," the twins said simultaneously.

Those three bid adieus and left for Delhi which was going to take eight hours depending on the traffic. The rest of us were going to drop Jash at his grandparents before heading to Jaipur.

I tried to talk to Rushil and Saloni but both of them rushed back into the hotel rooms.

Jash gestured he'd take care of Rushil and I set after Saloni.

"Can we talk?" I asked her.

She took out her clothes to change in the shower. "I can't yet."

She disappeared into the bathroom leaving me no choice but to go to Rushil and Jash. Jash opened the hotel room door after I began banging on it.

"How's he?" I asked quietly.

He answered negative which led me to tackle the issue head on. Jash faltered in the doorway.

"I'll wait outside," he said.

I was about to ask him to come along but realized maybe the time wasn't right.

Rushil sat on his bed half upright, leaning on a pillow. He clutched his head probably from the hangover.

"Listen to me carefully," I said to Rushil. "Six months ago, we broke up. More than a month ago, the breakup was final. Why didn't you tell me you loved Saloni all along?"

"Sorry." The sincerity in his one word threw me off. He sat upright and gestured me to sit down on the bed. I obliged. "I didn't know when it happened. I never thought of her as more than a friend and then suddenly, we started talking during work. When we went to Jash's graduation, I knew I was in trouble. I was afraid to tell you because I didn't know how you'd react."

"I was more shocked than anything," I said truthfully. "What concerns me now is how damaged we've become in starting new relationships. I can't believe you haven't made a move on Saloni since we broke up!"
