Chapter 22: Pani Puri Challenge

I wore the stunning blue anarkali Keerat had helped me pick out.

Saloni helped me with the makeup to cover my bruise which I hid reluctantly. I no longer cared. Saloni though told me since it was Mano's special day, we should strive to lay low. It wouldn't look good telling their guests that we were harmed while we were staying at their house.

Apparently, sometimes people called the bride unlucky for events like these.

We went downstairs for a pre-wedding ceremony.

I had to take a pause when I saw Jash talking to his uncle. He was dressed in an all black suit from head to toe with the waistcoat, blazer, button down, pants, and shoes crisp. He had stylized his jet black hair with gel making him look fresh.

"Sometimes, I make great decisions," I told Saloni. She laughed following my line of sight.

We didn't stare at him any longer because Rushil decided to butt in between Saloni and I.

"Hello, manners," Saloni said as we both got elbowed by Rushil.

I looked at his grey suit with a white button down. He wore a maroon tie matching the color of Saloni's dress.

"Ladies looking as gorgeous as always," Rushil said as if a formality. "Your turn?"

He held his blazer collars for a compliment.

"You look . . . like yourself," Saloni said unimpressed.

I tried not to laugh at the crestfallen look on Rushil's face. Saloni had already made up her mind about the type of person he was.

"I just realized we didn't grab any gifts for the bride," Rushil said suddenly. "What should we do?"

Saloni and I rolled our eyes. At least, he had remembered at the last second.

We told him we had already selected a gift for her at the market and put it in the gifts pile with all of our names on it.

"Why do you guys never tell me anything beforehand?" he complained.

"You were too preoccupied chasing someone," I teased.

Saloni sighed heavily and scooted closer to the food.

"Don't annoy her," Rushil said.

"Why?" I asked. "What're you gonna do? Fight me? I know how to handle a gun. Meet me outside after the wedding."

"Do you want a print on your other cheek too?" Rushil retorted.

He and I knew he was only joking. It might've not appeared as so to someone listening to our conversation. Jash had snuck up behind me while I wasn't paying attention.

"Lay one finger on her and I'll amputate your whole arm," Jash told Rushil.

Rushil rolled his eyes. "She's the one asking for a fight."

I looked at Jash sideways. "I know his weakness. All I need to do is kick his shin. He starts crying like a little girl."

I feigned a kick to Rushil's leg and he immediately backed away.

"Ha ha," Rushil said dryly. "Where's Saloni?"

He ran away before I could actually kick his shin which he had hurt himself a month ago playing a soccer game with a few colleagues.
