Chapter 16: Doctors Marry Doctors

Saloni, Rushil, Jash, and I promised Yogesh we'd pay for the damage if insurance didn't cover it. The man had been crying like hell and that was the only thing that brought him back to life. He left to get it all sorted.

Jash's grandmother was thrilled hearing about us staying at their place. She didn't even bother sympathizing for losing half of our ride.

"Jash, we can all stay at a hotel or an inn nearby," Rushil had said. "We don't want to inconvenience your family."

"Tell that to my dadi, not me," Jash said.

None of us dared.

The woman had a rifle next to the cot she sat on.

Jash's cousins showed us the rooms. Saloni and I shared one. Jash and Rushil had to shared the one next door.

"What's gonna happen to Jaipur?" I asked Saloni after we had shoved our suitcases under the bed.

"I had three days planned for sightseeing," she said with a heavy sigh. "Yogesh said it'll take him a week to get the van in order. I'm too tired to find a new rental car and move the schedule around."

"So, we'll leave together with Jash for Agra?" I asked her excitedly.

She nodded. "No other choice."

I was glad she was finally talking to me. I didn't bring up Rushil. I had yet to ask him if he had apologized.

This village might unite them.

We rested for an hour until Jash dropped by. I had opened the door.

"Hey, my cousins are going to see our farm," he said. "Do you two wanna come along?"

Saloni gave a nod.

I replied a "yes" on our behalf, and Jash left without another word.

"What's wrong?" Saloni scowled, her green eyes deep in worry when she saw my crestfallen face.

"I don't know." I shrugged.

"Chynna told me what happened after I left last night," she stated slowly. "I'm sorry I had my doubts but I wasn't sure if Jash really liked you."

"I accepted his feelings, Saloni," I told her. "This morning I asked him out."

"You did what?!"

"I told him I want to give our relationship a shot but it has to be serious," I told her. Now, it seemed like a daydream with an awkward spell all over it. I buried my face in my hands.

"Why am I finding out now?!"

"Lower your voice," I hissed.

"Do you like him?" she said in a hushed whisper.

"I spent a lot of time with him during the past week," I told her. "I still have to understand him more. I thought he liked you."

"He adores you. You have my blessing," Saloni said. "I'm so sorry for being away from you. I was scared you hated me. Are you mad at me?"

"For what?" I asked confused. She waited for me to catch on. "Why would I? You didn't know about Rushil."

Her eyes brimmed up with tears of relief. I enveloped her in a gentle hug.

"I don't want to be the cause of your pain," she said when she pulled away. "I feel like I did something wrong."

"Ssh," I said sternly. "Let's stop dwelling on the past, Saloni. Rushil and I are completely and officially done. You have my blessing to jump into a relationship with him."
