Chapter 21: Can I Kiss You?
Saloni attacked me as soon as we got home.
"Something happened," she said. "Did Jash and you have a fight?"
I nodded, trying hard not to cry.
"Over Keerat?" she asked.
"He was upset I spent my morning next to Rushil when he was with Keerat the whole time," I informed. "Can you believe him? Not once did he come to ask how I was doing today but I'm the one playing jealousy games? I don't want to stay here. I want to go home."
"Relax—"
"Can you help me book a flight ASAP?" I asked decisively.
"My darling," she said in a soothing tone, "Jash dropped by this morning four or five times when you were still sleeping."
"You didn't tell me."
"I completely forgot," she said apologetically. "He asked me not to wake you up if you were still sleeping. He said he'd just text you."
Oh God.
I hadn't even bothered to check my phone since I had forgotten it at home. I quietly picked my phone up and saw twenty messages from Jash. No wonder he was upset.
"That's why he was furious," I mumbled. "It was still unfair. He could've asked me rather than making false accusations."
She patted my arm. "Fiza, have you told him clearly how you feel about him? Clearly as in 'hey, Dr. Jash, I like you.'"
I shook my head slowly.
"Maybe you should so he knows for certain there's no more Rush in your life," she advised. "You do like him, right?"
"More than I imagined I would," I admitted to her. "He's so easy to talk to but then this stupid argument happened this morning. I hate my life."
"Ssh," she cooed. "Just talk to him when you get a chance. Get some rest now."
I sighed and tucked myself under the covers as Saloni left for the Haldi ceremony.
My mind wouldn't stop thinking about my argument with Jash and what Saloni had told me.
There was a knock on the door. Saloni would've come right in without knocking. It had to be someone else.
I opened the door and found Jash standing there with a glass of yellow liquid in one hand and a sweets box in another.
He entered without an invitation.
"My grandmother told me to give you this," he said and took a seat on my bed.
Why was he behaving this way? We had a fight just a few hours earlier.
It wasn't supposed to end for a few days. At least, that's how it worked between Rushil and I. We usually just broke up after every fight.
"You can leave it here," I told him. I didn't have the courage to confess my feelings or apologize yet.
"I was told to make sure you drank all of it," he said.
I took the glass from him.
"I'll finish it and show it your grandma myself," I told him. "You don't have to wait here."
He sighed standing up. "I'm sorry."
"For what?"
"For arguing with you when you were sick. For letting Keerat hold on to my arm like this." He captured my arm in his like I had done earlier. "I didn't want to fight with you but you didn't reply to any of my texts—"
