Waking up to an empty bed wasn't exactly how you envisioned your birthday starting off. You sat up against the headboard and looked around the room for Momo, but she was nowhere to be found.
"Momo?" You called out as you kicked the blankets away and climbed out of bed. You figured she wasn't in the bathroom since the door was open, the light was off, and it was too quiet. So you made your way out of the bedroom and down the stairs, where you saw her grabbing her coat from the rack.
"Wait, Momo,"
She turned around when you said her name. She sent you a smile as she came over to you, giving you a kiss on your cheek and a quick hug.
"Why do you have your coat on?"
"I have to head into the studio for a while." She explained, watching as your eyes went sad. "Don't worry, babe. I'll only be a few hours. Not like anything important was happening today, anyway. We were just gonna cozy up on the couch and watch some films, right?"
Was she serious? Was this some kind of joke on you?
"But,"
She cut you off by laying a kiss on your head, letting her lips linger for a moment.
"I'm so sorry, baby. I gotta go. I don't want to be late!"
And with that, she was hurrying out the door and leaving you with an ache in your heart. The tears blurred your vision right away, but you stood frozen on your feet for minutes, thinking she'd be walking through the door again at any given moment!
But when a whole ten minutes went by and you realized what was going on, you started to head up the stairs again with your head hanging down. You brushed your teeth and checked your phone, finding endless amounts of birthday messages from your family and friends and even from the girls.
You didn't reply though. You just put your phone back down and hugged your knees to your chest as the thought began to sank in; your girlfriend had really forgotten your birthday.
Meanwhile, Momo had finally arrived at the studio only a few minutes after leaving the house. She was excited to finally start on new music and she walked inside with a big, bright smile.
The girls, however, were wide-eyed and confused.
"What are you doing here?" Nayeon asked curiously.
"I thought we were recording today."
"Yeah, we are for a couple of hours. Not you! You're supposed to be home with y/n, celebrating!" Tzuyu exclaimed, causing Momo to furrow her eyebrows.
"Don't tell me you forgot y/n's birthday."
Momo gasped in shock, her hand covering her mouth as an overwhelming rush of guilt came over her.
"Oh no," she muttered quietly. Her heart was already breaking, just thinking about how sad and hurt you must feel knowing she forgot your birthday.
"What are you still doing here?" Dahyun asked, shaking her head with a laugh and nodding to the door. "Go home to y/n! And tell her that we'll be over in a little while!"
Momo was running out of the studio and back into her car to head home to you. But she made a stop along the way at your favorite little bakery where she grabbed something sweet and special for you before she arrived home a little while later.
"Y/n? Y/n!"
She rushed up the stairs and saw you sitting in bed, staring down at your painted nails with an indescribable sadness in your heart. You turned at the sound of her letting out a sigh and her feet on the floor.
"Baby," she sighed and took a seat beside you. "I can't believe that I forgot-"
"It's okay,"
"No, it isn't! You're my girlfriend and forgetting your birthday is unacceptable!" She spoke and began to kick herself for forgetting such a special day.
She scooted closer to you and took your hands into her own. She stared into your eyes and didn't hesitate for even a second to tell you everything she was feeling.
"I am so sorry. I never intended for this to happen, I promise you. It breaks my heart to think about you being so sad here when I walked out the door. You must've been so disappointed." She breathed out a shaky breath, looking away from your eyes for only a second before looking back into them. "I love you so much. Please let me make it up to you. I know it's still morning and there's still a lot of time left in the day, we'll spend it however you want to."
You cracked a smile, relieving her fears and worries of you being too upset to forgive her for forgetting something so special.
"I just wanna spend it with you."
She leaned forward to kiss your forehead. Her lips lingered again, but she pulled away much quicker this time than before when she realized she had something special to give you.
"Here, birthday girl. Got something for you."
You furrowed your eyebrows, watching as she pulled a cupcake out of the bag. She stuck a candle in the center and lit it before holding it in front of you.
"Make a wish, baby girl."
You stared at her and thought about it for a second before closing your eyes and blowing it out.
"What'd you wish for?"
"Nothing at all."
"Why not?"
You crawled closer to her and put your head on her chest before saying, "Because I've got all I ever want right here, right now."
You kissed her collarbone and lifted your head and felt frosting smear across your nose.
"Momo!" You laughed, wiping it off and putting it across her cheek.
"I deserve that."
You laughed and stole a kiss from her lips, pulling away with a big, bright smile that made her heart melt.
"Happy birthday, my love."
"Best birthday yet." You said and stole another kiss from her lips, happy to have her by your side on your special day.
