Chapter 42: Biggest Day

3RD PERSON

"H-He's... He's Petunia's biological father," mahinang sabi ni Grethel.

"I see. So, what he wants?" Fauze asked while walking inside their house. Grethel is just tailing him.

"He just wants to see Petunia nothing more."

"But, I heard that he wants to win you back. Do you love him?" he darted his eye on Grethel's.

She gulped. "N-No. Not anymore," she answered. "It was you all along," she took so much courage to say that in front of him.

"We're not on the same page, Grethel," he casually said.

She bit her lower lip and avoids her gaze. It's painful hearing those words said by himself. "I know and I'm stupid. I love you, but you love her and that's the most painful thing I've ever done in my entire life," tumawa siya ng mahina kahit nagbabadyang tumulo ang luha niya. "I know you're just staying with me because of Petunia and your father's will. I thought it makes me happy, but I was wrong because you always make me feel invisible. 'Yong ako ang narito, pero siya ang hanap mo. Ang tanga ko lang. I just love a person who will never love me back," her tears start to fall. "Every night I heard you crying in your room because of her and I couldn't do anything but to leave you alone, but God knows how eager I was to comfort you, pero hindi ako ang kailangan mo, 'di ba? That's why I always keep my distance to you."

Hindi makatingin si Fauze sa kaniya dahil lahat ng sinabi niya ay tama. He feels her pain and agony, but he can't do something about that.

"I'm sorry." That is only he just said. "I know my apologies won't change everything, but still I'm sorry for the nth time, Grethel. I'm always being so insensitive and I admit that. I'm sorry," he sincerely said. Lumapit siya sa kaniya saka niya ito niyakap. "I'm sorry," he said again.

Grethel is just crying on his chest. This is what she ever wanted, hugging by him and she knew that this hug is just a sympathy and nothing more.

Siya ang unang kumalas ng yakap. Pinunasan niya ang luha niya saka tumingin ng diretso kay Fauze. "This set up is killing us both and we're not happy, so why don't we live with our own lives?" she said and forced a smile.

Fauze stopped. "Wh-What? What are you saying? How about Petunia?"

"You can still be his father even though we're not together anymore, right? After all, she's a daddy's girl," she laughed a little to restrain herself from crying again.

"But—"

"No buts. I made my choice. Don't tell me you don't want to do this?"

"I... I wanted to, but are you sure about this?"

She nods in response. "Besides, we're just engaged, but not married," she smiles a little. "And I think one of the bravest thing I'll do in my life is to set you free. You're my favorite mistake,  Cohen," she caresses his cheek.

Fauze holds her hand. "Thank you. Thank you for everything you've done for me, Grethe," he then hugs her again.

They both smile on the comfort of each other.

TRIST

"Tristis, tanggapin mo na 'to. Sige na naman, oh."

Hindi ko pinansin ang makulit na Pikoy na 'to. Mas lalo ko lang binilisan ang paglalakad ko. Tumigil lang ako nang hinawakan niya 'ko sa braso.

"Ano ba?! Hindi nga sabi ako interesado sa 'yo, eh," naiinis kong sabi. Kanina niya pa kasi ako kinukulit. Tss.

"Tanggapin mo lang hindi na kita kukulitin pa. Promise 'yan." Tinignan ko 'yong inabot niyang box. "Graduation gift ko 'yan sa 'yo," nakangiti niyang sabi. Kinuha ko ito sa kaniya kaya mas lalong lumaki ang ngiti niya. "Buksan mo na. Buksan mo na."
