"James Stonewell. Born 1954 to Margaret and Jonas Williams. He married Opal Stonewell in 1982. Ooo took her name, interesting. They had two daughters, Jade and Crystal." Caroline read off the file she had printed off the public records. She had came over the next morning with research for the two of us to go through. I managed to stay out of Damon and Stefans way, hiding in the library with Caroline. Plus, I felt a little safer with her. "He moved to New York after the death of his wife." She scanned the paper before reading out loud again, "Opal Stonewell died from falling down the stairs." She looked up to me and raised an eyebrow, "obviously a lot of hiding deaths before vampires came to town." She sighed and flipped the page, "he never lived in Mystic Falls. Why was Christie here?"

"Crystal, you mean?" I corrected her. No wonder she changed her name.

"What a stripper name! And Jade, and Opal..? I mean, What are they?" Caroline laughed slightly at the peculiar names.

Caroline and I shared a knowing look, "how did she find out about vampires?" I asked.

"Maybe she already knew?" Caroline added

"Because she was one?" I answered/asked in our back and forth.

"No she was turned by Damon , remember." Caroline scanned the paper again, looking for something. "Because she was something...." Caroline paused and looked up to me again, "a witch?"

"Her dad trapped her in the ring. Using magic." I added, thinking back to what she had told everyone. "But, who was the witch? Her dad?"

"No. No, he took her name. Keeping that family name alive. The Stonewell name. But why? Were they witches?" Caroline frowned as she thought hard about it all.

The door creaked open and Stefan walked in, "sorry, I was just eavesdropping" he smirked closing the door behind him.

I looked over as he entered, I don't think I was use to the whole vampire thing at all. He had no cuts or bruises, fast healing and all that. But it still freaked me out. He saw me staring and smiled. I whipped my head back round to Caroline.

"Hey Stefan. What's up?" Caroline smiled, trying to be just her; happy, smiley and positive.

"We may have something that could give you some answers."

I looked up to Caroline and she looked straight at me. What does he mean they have something....

I followed Caroline and Stefan down to the basement, only the second time I had been down here. It looked darker and eerier than last time, somehow. I walked passed the big fridge that held the blood bags, Caroline and Stefan carried on down to the cell. I stopped and walked over the fridge, resting my hands on the lid. I swallowed hard before lifting the lid quickly so I didn't scare myself out of it. I looked down inside and saw it full of blood bags. My hand started to shake as I went into the fridge and picked up a bag. It was weird feeling it for real. Seeing it on the TV or when visiting people in hospital the blood bags looked like, well a bag of liquid. But it was more melting jelly. I don't know if that was the bag, the cold, or the blood. I'm not sure what warm blood in a bag feels like. The sticker showed B+ on the front from Mystic Falls Hospital. My blood type. Be positive. Something I could never be.

"Hey! Liv!" Caroline shouted round the corner. I dropped the bag and slammed the fridge shut. Taking a couple of breaths I walked round to the cell. "This is Craig. He's a vampire that was after Christie, again. Another one."

Damon was stood leaning against the wall next to the cell door, "and Mr Clumsy here tripped over and I grabbed him, sparing his life if he answers a few questions." He smiled, "so, who wants to start?"

I peered in through the open door to see a blonde guy tied to a chair. He had rope over his ankles, wrists, waist and shoulders. I could see burn marks where the ropes were tied; soaked in vervain.

My heart pounded, my mouth went dry and I could feel what seemed like bleach stinging my nose and eyes. "I can't do this." I sighed and ran back upstairs, throwing open the main doors and taking in a lung full of fresh air.

"What was that about?" Damon's voice behind me said sternly. I turned slowly to look at him. I needed to. "I wasn't asking you to stab him!"

"I know." I tried to control my breathing as Damon spoke, tried to stay in control.

"So what the hell? Questions that was it. All you had to ask him."

"And what if he didn't answer them?" I asked quickly before my brain got too scared to ask it.

"Then... er, then..."

"Then someone hurts him."

"He's evil, Liv. He knows Christie and he could answer some questions. If he doesn't answer then yeah; a vervain shot, a little wooden stake to the leg..."

I looked down at the floor, how did I not see all this before? How he was? And why can't I just leave? "I'm going to Matts." I whispered before taking a few steps away from Damon.

"Wait, no. Please!" Damon shot round and was now in front of me. It made me jump as he appeared in front of me, forgetting the speed thing for a few seconds. Damon grabbed my forearms and held me tight, so I didn't move. "Please don't leave." His grip tightened around me, I knew his fingers were going to leave bruises. But I didn't care, I had worse. I knew how to hide the pain.

"I can't stay." I breathed out, holding back my tears. "I can't." I tried to make sure I pushed the thought of my father as far back as I could; this is not him. This is Damon.

"Go upstairs. I'll come up and not tell you anything. I promise. Just please, please don't go." Damon begged. I could finally see fear in his eyes. He was scared? Of me leaving?

I nodded and Damon grip loosened. His face was softer as he smiled. He lifted his hand and moved a piece of hair out of my face and behind my ear before stroking my cheek. I flinched slightly at the touch, unsure why. Damon dropped his hand and walked passed me and back inside. I waited a few moments before turning round myself and walking in, closing the door and up to my room.
