I hadn't noticed the room fill up with steam from my shower. Just a little as some had gone out to the bedroom. I got up and continued to change for the shower. I had a peak out to the bedroom but couldn't see Damon, so I jumped in the shower and quickly washed away the feelings. All the feelings. Complete factory reset.
Turning the water off I took a deep breath in before stepping out and grabbing a towel, letting it out as I wrapped the towel around me. I walked into the bedroom and sat on the edge of the bed, not noticing I still had company.
"What was that about?" I shot up and turned to the far corner where Damon was sat at the desk. He got up and walked over, "I mean, you seemed pretty in to it. And then -"
"Look Damon," I interrupted, "It's complicated. I just don't -" and then this time I was interrupted by the chime of his phone.
Damon sighed and dragged his phone out his pocket, "it's Elena. She needs some help." He walked towards the door but turned back round before leaving, "put a pin in this. I wanna know what's complicated." And with that he closed the door, leaving me by myself.
I finished getting ready, not drying my hair though, and walked out the room nearly bumping into Stefan, "hey, sorry." I smiled up to him
"It's alright. Listen, Elena needs me right now but how about tonight we watch a movie, eat some popcorn...?" He said while walking backwards towards the stairs, "feel like it's been ages since we hung out."
"Sure" I sighed, "now get to Elena." I pushed a smile out and Stefan smiled back.
"Cool. See ya." Stefan said before hopping down the stairs and out the front door, slamming it behind him.
Of course Elena needs them. Of course they'd go running. What Elena wants right?
I was eight when I remember what power Elena had over the boys of Mystic Falls. Over Matt. Elena, Jeremy, Matt and I were all playing together in Elenas garden. Matt passed me a stone to build my mountain for the Forrest World we had all created using bits we found in the garden - sticks, stones, leaves, things like that. Elena came over to me and snatched the stone, "I want this for my castle."
"But Matt passed it me."
"So?"
We both turned to Matt, "erm, well it would look good on top of the castle."
I slumped down and felt so small. Elena smiled at me, flicking her hair and walking back to her pile of stones. Yes that's all they were, like mine. But she had called it a castle.
Another time, when I was 12, this is where my hatred for Jeremy started. He pushed me over, for the life of me I cannot remember why. And sat on me, pushing my face into the dirt. I could hear laughing, Elena laughing. His mum finally came out and got Jeremy off me. I stood up and was close to tears. She told Jeremy off and sent him inside before turning to me to see if I was ok. I could see Elena trying not to laugh, and I could see Matt. Doing nothing. I ran back to Matts and cried. By the time he came home I was angry.
"Why didn't you tell Elena to not laugh? I was upset!" I shouted at him as he came through the door
"Because...well, Elena is...." he started but I screamed in his face. He stood there unable to move or talk. In pure shock.
"It's always Elena isn't it!? You can't even stand up for your own cousin!" I grabbed my bag and ran out the door, to my uncles. I stayed there for another night before my dad picked me up. That night at my uncles was The Night. When something attacked the two of us.
