Damon burst open the front door, breaking it off the hinges, trying to find his brother and .... girlfriend? ....

A black haired girl stepped into view, "Ah Damon I'm guessing? Come on in." Her voice was the same as the one on the phone, obviously Ebony...

He stepped over the threshold and found Stefan and Olivia in the kitchen. Stefan was lying on the floor, a stake hovering and getting closer and closer to him. To his heart. And Olivia, she was tied to a chair, crying. Next to her another woman was tied and gagged. Stefan was on one side of the room, Olivia on the other.

"I'm Ebony, by the way. You must be the boyfriend slash brother?" Ebony smirked at him, she stood in the middle of the room holding a knife in one hand. Damon looked over to Stefan as he heard him groan, "Magic is great at times. Means I get to have a little spell over one while I deal with another."

"So why would you want to get rid of it?" Damon spat at her, unsure who to go to first.

"Because I wouldn't need it if vampires weren't around." She sighed moving closer to Olivia and the other woman. "Now Damon, who to save? Save Olivia, Stefan gets that stake to the heart. Save Stefan, and Olivia gets a knife to the heart." She moved behind Olivia and held the knife above Olivia head.

Olivias perfect bottom lip quivered, tears fell down her rosey cheeks. Damon didn't want to lose her. But, he couldn't let his brother die. He looked over to Stefan as the stake got closer and closer to his chest. Stefan couldn't move, his fingers kept twitching as if he was trying but nothing was happening.

"Oooo decisions decisions" Ebony smirked, "who are you going to save? The girl, or the brother?"

"You're gonna die too. Aren't you magic?" Damon was grasping at straws, trying to figure out how to save both of them... but nothing was coming to him.

"No. The jewels are magic, not us. We are the protectors, the signal of the stones. I just want a normal life. Not one where I have to check if my room mates in college are some sort of magical creature!" Ebony sighed, starting to get bored. "Choose quickly, otherwise they both die. Well, you and Stefan will soon enough but, you'll have a few more months together. And at least that brother bond will be strong in death." She smirked at the two brothers.

"Damon, Olivia..." Stefan managed to get out, he couldn't really move his mouth either! She had frozen near enough every bit of him to the spot.

Olivia shook her head fiercly, she didn't want to be saved? Always family. She thought, closing her eyes, waiting for what was to come.

Stefan screamed. Olivias eyes shot open and looked over to him, the stake had entered his chest, "Stefan!" She shouted.

Damon still don't move. He didn't even want to look at his brother as this was the worst decision he had ever had to make.

If I save Olivia, Stefan gets staked. I lose my brother forever. If I save Stefan, I lose the love of my life. And it will only be a matter of time before we die too. But, at least I'll have my brother. Family. Always family.

Stefan screamed again and this time Damon didn't hesitate. He ran over to his brother, grabbing the stake, "I got you brother." Damon whispered trying to pull it out but it was resisting.

"You've chosen? Good choice." Ebony smirked, moving to the front of Olivia. She waved her hand and began chanting something in Latin.

The resisting stopped on the stake and Damon was able to pull the tip out of Stefans chest and he finally had the hold over him released too so he could move off the floor, "Olivia" he whispered.
