"Vampires?"

I nodded, waiting for Stefan to continue. For him to answer my question. "I dunno" he sighed, "I haven't seen one. But there's so many stories about them in every country that it's hard not to believe that there's something..."

I smiled as he spoke. Maybe he's just crazy like my uncle was? I've been reading through these journals. And he talks about animal attacks. A lot." I open up to a page and pass it to Stefan, "here he talks about seeing it happen. A male biting some woman's neck and she just falls to the ground." I take it back off him and flip a few pages over, "and here he talks about seeing her but she doesn't remember being bitten. He thought he was going crazy..."

"Maybe he was." Stefan interrupted me

"Haha, you'd think" I then grabbed a different journal and turned a few pages in, "here he talks about Christie. I'm not sure who she is but says things like she's different. That she doesn't want to go out during the day any more. She had no memory of a few days before, a date that they had."

Stefan looked through it all with his brow furrowed. I could see he was processing it all but I was unsure how he would take it. "It's a bit far fetched."

"You just said that it's hard not to believe there's something. Well, here's something."

Stefan sighed and closed the journal, "unless I see it with my own two eyes, reading a story isn't going to make me a believer." He handed me the journal back.

"But this isn't a story. This was my uncles life" I defended him. He was always seen as the weird uncle. But maybe he wasn't? "I'm reading more." I jumped up and walked over to the boxes, searching for more journals.

"How about we go check on the house?" Stefan jumped up next to me, taking me by the arm and leading me away, "it's been a few hours, surely they'll be done now?"

"They said it'll be a four or five hour job. It's been two." I pulled my arm out of his grasp and and walked back to the boxes, "and they said they'd give me a call when they were nearly done so I could get the key off them."

"Olivia" Stefan grabbed my hand before I got hold of another journal. His hand felt soft, comforting. Like everything was going to be ok. "Let's get some lunch. I can make you some pasta?"

I turned to look at Stefan in the eye. They really were beautiful, shining away in the light. His smile beaming at me. "OK. As long as there's loads of cheese."

Stefan chuckled, "always." I put the journals down and headed out the room with Stefan to the kitchen.

Once there, he made us both some pasta and we sat at the table in silence. Everything I read was still running through my mind: could vampires be real? Am I just as crazy as my uncle? Would it really be crazy to believe in vampires? People believe in God with no actual physical evidence He's up there... so what's the difference? But if vampires are really....what else could be real?

"Olivia?" Stefan waves his hand in front of my face, "you ok?"

I shook my head, getting out of my thoughts, "huh? Oh yeah, fine."

"Elena text, I need to go see her. Damon's in his room, I think, if you need anything." He smiled and got up from the table.

"Thanks." I smiled as I watched him leave. Always Elena. What is with that girl? What's so special about her?

I got out my head again and left the kitchen too, back up to the room. I continued reading the journals, completely transfixed on finding out everything I could.

July 7th
I talked to the Sheriff today. She told me I was mad and to not think about it any more. I can't stop thinking about it. I'm not sure what else I'm suppose to do.

July 10th
I saw Christie again today. I'm sure she's turned. She wouldn't come see me for lunch and instead suggested I went to her. Apparently she's staying at the old boarding house. With that Zack guy.

July 11th
Seeing Christie last night confirmed my suspicions. I can't believe this has happened and now I don't know what to do about it. I need more answers.

There was a few pages with other notes write out:

- wooden stake to the heart
- vervain
- rip out their heart
- cannot enter a home without being invited

August 3rd
Today I spoke to Christie completely. I told her I found out everything but she still denied it all. I don't believe her. Everyone in the town is dismissing the possibility. But I'm sure of it. They either know about it and are hiding it. Covering it up. Or they are one.

"Still looking at those journals." I looked up to see Damon stood at the doorway, "aren't you bored?"

"No." I closed the journal, "I didn't know much about my uncle so it keeps me close to him."

Damon walked in and sat on the bed in front of me. Just like Stefan did. But Damon looked different to Stefan, he didn't have Stefans kind eyes.

"Damon, do you believe in vampires?"
