Back at the Salvatores I went back to reading the journals; it was the only thing that made sense to me. As I read journal after journal I put pieces of the puzzle together. And then finally I found something.... something that I needed that one brother for.
I ran downstairs, journal in hand, to find Damon in the library drinking bourbon from the bottle, "care to explain?" I shouted over, throwing the journal over to him as he sat on the couch.
He picked it up and looked at the page, "what am I suppose to be reading?"
I picked it back off him and read the passage, "I went back to the boarding house and looked in. This time I saw Christie. And she wasn't alone." I looked up to Damon who was still just sat there, not an expression crossed his face, "some guy was with her. They were drinking and dancing like no one was watching. I have never seen her look so happy before. Like she didn't have a care in the world." I looked back up and now his lips were pursed, like he was remembering something, "I couldn't make out what they were saying but I think I caught his name: Damon? Maybe." I slammed the journal closed and looked over to him, "sound familiar at all?"
"No" he said simply before taking another sip of bourbon. I grabbed it out his hand and chucked it on to the fire out of frustration. Damon jumped up and before I knew it he had me pinned against the wall, the journal falling from my hands and landing on the floor after I hit the wall. "Don't you ever do that again." He whispered, his face inches from mine as he spoke.
Damon had me pinned against the wall, his hands pressing tight on my forearms. But for once I wasn't scared. In his eyes I could see hurt and pain, sorrow and frustration. But I could also tell that he would not hurt me. There was something about the way his face looked angry yet soft, as if he was just putting it all on. But no one was around. Why would he have to put it on for me?
"Or what? You gonna lie to me again?" He dropped his hands from my forearms and backed away. "You knew her. And you never said."
"Only for a few months. It was nothing. I thought it was nothing." He ran his hands through his hair as he turned away and walked back into the middle of the room, "she was just some fun for a little while and then... then she wasn't there any more."
"What do you mean wasn't there?" I followed him round the room.
"I went away for a few weeks and when I came back she was gone." He turned round and I nearly walked into him I was following him that close.
There was a question I was dying to ask, but I really didn't want to. Before it even left my lips, I knew his response. "How did you know her?"
Damon sighed and walked a few paces back before sitting on the arm of the couch. Looking up to me with sadness and fear in his eyes, he spoke, "I came back and got into an argument with Zach. So I went into town and met Christie. We chatted and drank. Came back here and danced and drank..."
"What happened?" I asked sternly, I didn't want to hear it but I needed to.
"I turned her."
I nodded knowingly. Of course he turned her. Why wouldn't he turn her!? But that doesn't answer where she went....
