I expected to feel different, but I didn't. The past few days I was adjusting to life without that voice, without Christie, and it was weird. I kinda missed her.
"I just want things to carry on as normal" I smiled at Matt and Caroline. We were hanging out at the Grill one afternoon, a rare chance Damon let me out his sight. "Damon won't leave me alone and it's starting to make me uncomfortable."
"He's just worried about you." Caroline smiled and took my hand, "we all are. We don't want something to happen to you again."
"I'm fine!" I shouted taking my hand away from Caroline, "why is it so hard for people to understand that?"
"Because you were possessed by an evil killing spirit of a dead vampire?" Matt said, frowning at me as if I had forgotten.
"And if you remember I killed her. So it's fine!" I jumped out the chair and stomped out the Grill. I had just wanted a nice lunch with my friends, but no. Nothing was ever going to be the same.
I stomped my way down the road and rounded the corner out of the Main Street when someone jumped in front of me and grabbed me by my neck. "Where's Christie?" He breathed in my face.
"I don't know who you're on about." I managed to cough out. He had dark eyes and black hair. That's all I could make out from where I was.
He laughed at me, "please leave the lying at the door. She said I'd find her when I reached the ring. You have the ring..." he looked down at my hand, still eating the ring, "so where is she?"
"Dead." I sighed. I could feel my face burning red, my wind pipe getting tighter in his grip. Why do vampires always go for strangulation first?
"You liar! She told me she couldn't be killed." He spat in my face.
I had enough of this back and forth. "Vampires can."
He frowned before I saw his fangs come out. "Glad you know what's going to kill you."
He leaned forward but before his fangs touched me, he jolted forward and then back. His eyes glazed over and his skin turned grey. He dropped me onto the floor, I stumbled down and fell myself with weak knees. He fell backwards and Damon was stood there, holding his heart. "Well, looks like the Christie saga continues."
Damon walked home with me in silence until we got into the house, "this is why I always want to be around!" Damon shouted after me as I made my way upstairs, "Hey! Olivia!"
I froze on the step. My heart raced. I didn't know what to do.
"Olivia look at me!" He shouted again, voice booming up to my ears.
I slowly turned to look at him. My knees felt weak but I didn't want to move my hand to hold the bannister, wouldn't have done much good anyway as they were so sweaty.
"Can you see why I need you with me at all times!? In case things like that happen!"
I didn't reply. I couldn't open my mouth even if I tried. My heart pounded. My lungs felt like they were collapsing.
"I don't want to lose you." Damon said a little bit calmer this time but I could still hear the anger behind it.
I nodded quickly before turning and running upstairs as quick as I could, slamming the bedroom door closed behind me and leaning on it. I turned the lock and slid down the door as tears fell. Damon had never scared me like that before. Why had he scared me?
