Gideon
England
"What on earth are you still doing here?" Thia sighed, dropping into a chair in front of him, putting her feet on the desk he was sitting at.
"What she said." Marcia joined in.
Gideon groaned inwardly, and resisted the urge to rub at his eyes. He'd been spending most of his time in the library for the last week, and the lack of sleep was catching up to him but he couldn't stop, not until he had what he wanted.
"Researching as you can see." Gideon said without looking up from the boring book he was reading.
"Enough of that. You should be with your girl, not hiding behind dusty, old books." Marcia scolded him.
"First of all, she's not my girl. And second , I'm not hiding. I promised Ada I would find out what James is, and I'm keeping my word. The real question is, what are you two doing here? Are you just bored, or is this an emergency?"
Gideon was pissed that after days of going through endless supernatural genealogy books he still hadn't found his answer. As much as he waned to see Ada again, he didn't want to go to her empty handed.
"The second one." Marcia said.
Gideon finally looked up. "Did someone set the bathrooms on fire again or are the kitchens afloat? Is Adrian Ok? Is it the twins..."
"It's Ada." Thia crossed her arms in front of her. "You need to go to her, right now." She looked as serious, and alarmed as Marcia.
Worry ate away at Gideon's heart. "What do you mean? I texted her a couple of hours ago. She was fine..."
"She lied." Marcia tucked her curly hair behind her ears. "Nora called me tonight...Ada isn't feeling well. She can't keep any food in. Keeps throwing up. It's the baby. It's slowly killing both of them which is definitely not normal. She needs you Gideon..."
"Me? What the bloody hell can I do?" He said exasperately. "I'm a useless hybrid. She needs you Marcie..."
Her brown eyes softened. "I'm not the one who can charm speak."
"That won't work." Gideon burried his face berween his hands, trying not to lose control, and rip this whole fucking library to shreds.
"You don't know that..." Thia pat his back gently.
"I do. She's too bloody stubborn. It won't work." Gideon was going insane with worry.
Why couldn't Ada catch a break? Why wouldn't the world leave her alone?
"It will this time because she wants her child to live." Marcia said confidently.
Gideon wasn't stupid. He knew how slim her chances of survival were. If he lost her, he would lose himself.
"Please, you have to do something..."
"I've already tried, but none of my potions, or spells worked on her. I'm sorry. It's out of my hands..."
"How long have you known?"
"A couple of days..."
"And you're only telling me now?" Gideon growled, fisting his fingers.
"Gideon." Thia warned, and put a hand on his shoulder. "Ada didn't want to worry you..."
How could she be so calm whith Ada on the verge of death?
"Ada's a bloody idiot. Why is this happening to her?"
"The child must have senced her conflicated emotions. It happens sometimes. Supernatural children are different. These kinds of pregnancies don't always go smoothly. You're her only hope Gideon. Go to her. She needs you. They both do."
"But what if it doesn't work? What If I let her down again?" Gideon was drowning in an overwhelming sence of panic.
"You won't." Marcia reassured him.
"How do you know that?"
"Because we believe in you bro."
Gideon sighed, and looked at the pile of books in front of him. He still had no answer but Ada needed him and he had to at least try to save her. He owed her that after everything she'd gone through because of him. The books could wait.
Gideon stood up. "Fine. I'm leaving, but if anything happens, and I mean anything, call me, and I'll come back."
"Stop worrying about us and go to your girl." Thia smirked.
"For the milionth time, she's not my girl." Gideon rolled his eyes at her.
"Sorry I meant the ex you're still pinning after." She rolled her eyes back.
"About the books..." He started.
"We'll keep looking." Marcia picked up a book from the pile, and sank down into his chair.
"Thank you. I'll owe you big time."
"No. That's what family's for."
Her words warmed his heart.
"Don't forget to eat something and take a shower. You stink." Thia picked up another book.
"Love you too little sister." Gideon smiled and left them to continue his research.
