Gideon"I still don't understand why we left the safety of my house to come here." Ada said as Gideon helped her up the stairs of the lighthouse with one arm around her waist.
Gideon smiled at her. "No offense, but I was going mental being cooped up in your fancy manor twenty four seven."
"Can't blame you but I'm worried something would happen."
"I won't let anything happen to you. I promise." Gideon reassured her, tucking her tighter against himself.
There were about fifty hidden guards stationed around the lighthouse. If anyone got past them Gideon would make sure they wouldn't get past him.
"Don't make promises you can't keep." Ada's voice was sharp, but she didn't pull away.
"I would never."
"You're too egotistical for your own good."
"That's why everyone fancies me."
"See? That's exactly what I'm talking about. Oh my fucking God do these stairs ever end?" She panted, putting a hand on the wall to catch her breath.
"We're almost there."
"You said that five minutes ago, and five minutes before that, and five minutes before that..."
"You should have accepted my offer instead of nagging my ear off, and you dare call me egotistical. I told you going up hundred stairs wouldn't be easy, but do you ever listen to me? No. It's a wonder I don't have white hair because of you."
"You're basically dead. You can't have white hair."
"Not the point sweetheart."
"I won't let you carry me up like some stupid damsel in..."
Gideon scooped her up in his arms. "You're a goddess but even they need help sometimes."
"I'll throw you off this fucking lighthouse. You just wait Gideon Turner."
"Ok." Gideon grinned.
"This is rediculous. What If other people want to walk past us? You're blocking their way."
"Trust me, no one comes up here in winter."
"Exactly. Why did I say yes to you again?"
"Because I'm irresistable."
"Unbearable. You're fucking unbearable." Ada said, smiling.
Gideon chuckled, trying his damnest not to lean in and capture her mouth. They spent the rest of the way bickering which he enjoyed too much.
"Jesus fucking christ this view is mesmerizing." Ada exclaimed after Gideon put her down at the top of the lighthouse. She put her arms on the red barrier and gazed out at sea.
Gideon joined her, glad she was enjoying herself. "Yes, but not as mesmerizing as you." He said with a lazy smirk.
The sky was an endless grey blanket, the sea furious, folding, and unfolding around them restlessly, cold wind messing up Ada's blond hair. He could smell snow in the distance.
If he could paint, he would make the canvas remember the way Ada's hair blew into her face, the way her blue eyes sparkled, a thousand times more beautiful than any ocean. Gideon would make time remember her soft smile.
"Don't be so cheesy Gideon." Ada snorted and tucked her hair behind her ears.
But he knew she enjoyed the complement. Gideon wanted to reach out, and free it again. He liked the way it whipped around her face. It made her look more wild. Brought out the fire in her soul.
