Genevieve
What had she done? How could she have been so weak? How could she let him go for a second time?
She was the worst sister ever.
Genevieve couldn't run fast enough. She couldn't remember Angelina getting into her head. Her mind was empty.
Genevieve wanted to go back. Maybe they were still there. Maybe she could save James, but she knew they wouldn't stall. Her brother was gone, at the mercy of sadists, because of her.
Genevieve had to get him back somehow even though she knew he would hate her forever if she traded Ada for him. It was cruel. She knew that, but James was her little brother...
Branches scratched at her skin, icy tears running down her cheeks. She kept tripping, and couldn't stop. Couldn't defy Angelina's orders.
When Genevieve reached Adrian's rooms she was panting, and shaking violently, drenched in cold sweat. She pushed the door open, falling to her knees.
Adrian was there with Thia, and Marcia. They were watching a horror movie. Upon seeing her wretched state their gazes fixed on her with confusion and worry.
Genevieve had to say something, but she couldn't breath. She couldn't talk past the self loathing eating her alive.
"Genevieve?" Adrian called out to her kindly. "What happened?"
If anyone had ever felt like a father figure to her that was him. Genevieve looked up, trying to see past tears of shame. He was kneeling in front of her, holding her face in his gentle hands.
Thia, and Marcia were saying something but she couldn't focus on them.
"I...I fucked up. I fucked up real bad." She burst out crying, and hid her face in his chest. Adrian pulled her against him, and held her like a father would. "I'm so sorry. I didn't want to, but I couldn't do anything..."
"Tell me what happened." Adrian whispered, voice soothing, calming water on the fire of her guilt.
"They have him." Genevieve croaked out, crying into his chest. "They have my little brother, and it's all my fault."
She told them everything. Adrian's body tensed up, but he didn't let go of her.
"This is bad. This is really really bad." Thia said while pacing the room, looking truly scared. "When Jack, and the others find out, they'll be furious."
"We can't keep this from them. They'll find out eventually. It's better if they hear it from us." Adrian answered in a reasonable, sad voice.
"Mathias is a bloody nightmare, and Angelina is worse. Fuck..." Thia's eyes fell on Genevieve's tear stained face, and she gave a bitter smile. "Not that it was your fault dear."
Genevieve didn't bother to answer. She knew it was.
"We can get him back." Adrian told his girlfriend. "but I don't think any of us is willing to give Ada and her child up. It's not a fare trade. They never play fare. You know that Thia."
"There has to be something we can do..." Thia argued desperately. "We can't just give up on him. We can't. He's one of us Adrian."
"You think I don't know that?" Adrian sounded broken, and defeated.
Genevieve hugged her knees to her chest. She was losing her mind.
"That bitch." Marcia hissed angrily. "Angelina crossed a fucking line. I swear if I get my hands on that pathatic excuse of a witch..." Her dark eyes were two raging pits of anger.
"Not now Marcie." Adrian said calmly.
Only he could stay reasonable in a situation like this.
Marcia looked like she wanted to argue, but a firm look from Adrian made her change her mind. "Fine. I'll curse her later."
"Can you break the spell on Genevieve's mind?" Adrian asked her.
"I can't promise, but I can try."
"That's good enough. Get to work before Angelina causes any more trouble."
Marcia turned to Genevieve, eyes going soft. "Are you up for this?"
"Yeah I want her out of my fucking head."
