The Sacrifice

Katerina - 2

Katherine looks between both me and elena. "You come to watch me wither away?" She asks, her voice raspy.

"Goodbye Caroline."

Elena and I turn to look at Caroline who's face is ceased with worry. "As long as we stay on this side of the door, she can't hurt us. Please."
Caroline looks on with worry but leaves.

"Stefan know you're here?" Katherine asks once Caroline is gone. "We brought you some things." I say as Elena puts the bag on a rock.

Katherine quirks an eyebrow. "You came to bribe me? What is it that you want?" She sneers angry.

"I want you to tell us about Klaus." Elena says as I pull out a blanket and a lantern from the bag, placing it just outside the barrier that protects us from her.

Katherine murmers. "Hmm, you've been busy."

"We also brought you this." Elena adds as she takes out an old book, it's the Petrova book I gave Damon who gave it to Elena so they could mend they're bond. We've been doing some reading, it's mostly our family history.

"It's your family history. It says in here that the family line ended with you. Obviously that's not true."

Katherine scowls. "You think that if you brought me some family keepsake that I'd open up?" I knew she would say that so I pull out a bottle filled with blood and hold it up so she could see.

"We also brought you this." I say giving it a shake.
Katherine rushes over towards us but she can't get out because of the spell, her eyes turn red and veins form because she can smell it and she wants it.

I smirk at her and fake pout. "You don't look so good. How long before your body shuts down? 10, 20 years? Less? It must be painful to desiccate and mummify. I can't even imagine."

Katherine stares at the bottle as she sits down on the floor. I bend down to her level and put some blood in a plastic cup and push it towards her with a stick. Katherine takes the cup and drinks it, her skin regaining some of its color.

Katherine smirks at me "You have the Petrova fire."

"More blood?" I question with a small smile and tilt of my head.

Katherine puts the glass on the floor and I bring it over with the stick.

Katherine leans against the wall and starts to tell us the story about Klaus.

"It's a long story, Klaus and I. It goes all the way back to England, 1492, after I left Bulgaria. Or was thrown out." She explains as I pour her another cup of blood and push it to her.

"Thrown out?" Elena asks as she sits against our side of the wall. I do the same sitting beside her.

Katherine glances between us. "My family, your true ancestors, they disowned me. My indiscretions were not tolerated at that time. I had a baby out of wedlock. The shame." She says in exaggeration.

"It was kept secret?" Elena questions.

Katherine nods. "Mhmm. My baby was given away. I was banished to England and I had to learn to adjust. So I quickly became English" She explains.

"It was there that I caught the eye of a nobleman named Klaus. I was taken with him at first, til I found out what he was and what he wanted from me. And then I ran like hell."

ENGLAND 1492
(3rd person)

Katherine is running in the woods, scared out of her mind as she runs deeper and deeper into the woods. She falls, landing face forward and in fear of being heard, hides behind a tree. Elijah and his men appear not far from her position, looking for her by scent.

"She's here. Katerina! I know you're near, I can smell your blood. It's pointless to run, Klaus will find you wherever you are." Elijah yells out.

Trevor arrives and indicates a false direction.

"This way. There is more blood over there." 

Believing Trevor, they rush off to the other side of the woods with their speed.

When Katherine assumes it's safe, she gets up and tries to flee but is stopped when Trevor arrives, putting a finger on her mouth indicating she needs to be quiet and pushes her against the tree.

"Head east. I can't lead them astray anymore." He orders of her.

"I can't run anymore." Katherine says in an english accent.

"Never mind. There's a cottage. You'll be safe there. Go now. Go!"

PRESENT MYSTIC FALLS

"So, what did Klaus want?" I ask as I stand, crossing my arms and pacing slowly in front of them.

Katherine looks up at me. "The same thing that he'll want from Elena. He wants to break the curse." I look down at Elena, the words taken from my mouth.

"By sacrificing the Petrova doppelgänger." Elena realizes. "He wanted to drain every single drop of blood from my body."

Elena quickly gives another glass of blood to Katherine to get more information.

"What does the Petrova blood line have to do with Klaus?" She asks, which is what I'd like to know.

Katherine picks the cup up as Elena and I sit back down. "It's really tedious but..."
She stops for a second as she drinks and crushes the cup. She's regained most of her color and no longer looks like she's a zombie.

"The curse was bound by the sacrifice of Petrova blood. Witches are crafty with their spells. The doppelgänger was created as a way to be able to undo the spell. Once the doppelgänger reappeared, the curse can be broken."

"So you ran before he killed you?" I asked.

Katherine tilts her head with a shrug. "Something like that."
