"So how much of your little story is true?" I ask Katherine as she flips through her family book.

"I have no reason to lie, Ariel. I have no reason to do anything but sit here and read and rot"

"Okay, assuming it's even partially true, that's the reason why you came back isn't it? Because you wanted to be the one to hand me over to Klaus." Elena says, putting one piece of the puzzle together.

Katherine puts the book down and stands. "500 years on the run, I figured maybe he'd be willing to strike a deal."

"So you got Mason Lockwood to find you the moonstone." I say, realizing why she needed Mason, who is now dead.

"Right" Katherine confirms.

"What else do you need to break the curse?" Elena asks.
Katherine hums. "Hmm, look who is getting smarter."

"It's not just Elena or the stone, is it? Otherwise there would be no reason to trigger Tyler Lockwood's werewolf curse." I say in realization.

Katherine puffs out a breath. "Witches and their spells: so many ingredients, so many people to sacrifice."

Elena narrows her eyes. "So you need a werewolf?"

Katherine nods slightly. "Believe it or not, they're hard to come by."
"What else?" I ask.

"A witch to do the spell. Mine bailed but Bonnie will do just fine."
"What else?" Elena asks this time.

"A vampire."

"Caroline." Elena and I breath out.

Katherine shrugs, "It could have been anyone I suppose but I like the poetry of Caroline." She mocks. Oh this bitch is dead.

"So you were gonna just hand us all over to be killed?" Elena asks in fury.
Katherine smirks "Better you die than I."

...............

Katherine has gone back into the tomb, leaving Elena and me to pace with the information.

So in order for Klaus to break the curse, he needs my sister and two of my best friends. Great, that's that's just great.

I sighed at Elena as I looked into the tomb where Katherine wasn't coming out of. "Come on let's get out of here"

She sighs and nods, I grab the bottle of blood and elena grabs her bag and we go to leave but then Stefan arrives.

"Elena. Ariel" he says as he goes down the steps.

"Stefan, what are you doing here?" Elena questions.

"I could ask you the same question." He says.

Elena sighs. "Caroline told you."

Stefan shakes his head. "No, she kept your secret but it didn't take long for me to figure out what was the important that you'd have to keep it from me."

Elena plants her hands to her side. "I knew that you'd stop me."
Stefan looks at her. "Listen to me, whatever she said to you is a lie. Do not listen to her. She's a liar, Elena."

I rake a hand through my hair. "What if she isn't? You didn't hear what she said." I say, defensive.

Stefan looks over to me. "You don't have to worry, I'm not gonna let anything happen to Elena"

Elena shakes her head. "That's the problem, you won't but you'll die trying. How's that any better?"

Katherine appears at the tomb.

"There's nothing you can do, Stefan." She says drawing our attention. "I haven't even told you the best part of the story."

BULGARIA 1942

Katherines on horse back when she arrives at her parents' home. She finds dead people outside, sending a panic through her as she rushes inside. She finds her father dead, impaled with a sword to the wall and backs up against the door in shock and horror.

She lets out a sob when she sees her mother on the bed, dead. She rushes over to her and She cries over her mother's body.

"No, no, no, mama. No!"

PRESENT DAY MYSTIC FALLS

"He killed them, my entire family, just to get back at me for running. Whatever you do to escape Klaus, he will get his vengeance on your friends, your family and anyone that you've ever loved."

Her story is enough to make tears spring in all of our eyes in sorrow. Oh my god.

Stefan grabs Elena by the shoulder and snaps her out of it. "No, look at me. No, do not listen to her, okay?"

Katherine chuckles. "Always the protector but even you must realize that she's doomed. There's nothing you can do to stop it unless of course you have this."

She then pulls out The moonstone.

"What?" I question and Elena takes the smallest step forward.

Stefan points a finger at Katherine. "Oh no, there it is. It's the ultimate lie, isn't it? You spun this whole thing so that we would have to get the stone from you, didn't you?"

Katherine shakes her head. "I didn't spin anything, Stefan. It's the truth."

Stefan takes step to get closer as he can. "No, let me guess. You want to trade that stone for your freedom, you manipulative, psychotic bitch."

Katherine scoffs.

"My freedom? That's where you're wrong, Stefan. I don't want my freedom because when Klaus shows up to kill us all and he will, I'll be in the tomb, where no vampire will enter because they can't get out. I'll be the safest psychotic bitch in town."
