By all accounts, it was a beautiful day in Mitis Town. The Twittles sang, and a boy and his Twilat played outside near the stream, the sun shown warmly on the small town. In the dig site, two men sat on a large rock, eating lunch. The younger man had brown hair, green eyes, and fair skin. His brown fedora was placed to the side. The older man was of dark skin, bald, and with emerald eyes.
"So, thinking of sending Thane on a journey yet?" Noah shrugged, "He wants to go, but Lauren isn't so sure." Derrick chuckled. "Better make use of that watch you two got him, when I went on my journey we didn't have that kind of tech. Our Capture Discs barely worked half the time!" Noah laughed, "That's because you're old, Derrick!" Derrick grunted. "Maybe, but I'll tell you, it ain't good to shower a kid with that kind of tech. Can't that small thing make forcefields, and doesn't it have a built-in flamethrower?" "Those are features you can unlock by defeating Battle Theatres," Noah explained. Derrick grunted again, "Yeah, because a built-in teleporter wasn't enough. How much did you spend on the thing anyway?"
"Not much, actually," Noah replied. "Thane had his old watch for a long time, so we traded it in." Derrick took a bite of his sandwich. "It's crazy how fast technology is advancing. Super-watches? Have you heard how people replace their limbs with robot ones from POLUT Corp.? How can anyone choose to cut off a limb for a fancy one, I'd understand if they didn't have a choice, but I hear it's mostly for convenience. And now they even make living robot Loomians. How do you even make a Loomian?" Noah laughed softly. "Start of the apocalypse, I swear."
Suddenly thunder boomed in the distance, and both men jumped. "Foreshadowing!" Noah said with a laugh, but he jumped when dark clouds rolled in from out of nowhere, casting an eerie purple around the area and it began to pour, thunder boomed around them.
"In the cave!" Derrick cried. With his food forgotten, Noha grabbed his hat and quickly followed Derrick into the cave housing their latest, and possibly greatest discovery, a stone tablet with runes from an old language. "I'm soaking wet!" Noah complained, and he began to wring out the water in his hat. But Derrick remained frozen in place, he stared at the tablet as it began to glow. "Noah!" Derrick said loudly and grabbed at the man's arm, shaking him hard. "What?" Noah asked worriedly, his head snapping up. Without answering or looking away, Derrick pointed at the tablet.
Both men stared as with a whoosh, the runes shone a white bright and then peeled themselves from the stone. For a few seconds, the runes floated in the air, then they began to take each other's place. They seemingly rearranged themselves at random, and when they were in their new positions, they settled back onto the tablet. Noah couldn't help himself. "Fascinating." He whispered softly and in awe.
A few streets away, a young boy sat in his room. The news was playing on the TV, and they were covering the storm that had come out of nowhere, but Thane had it on as background noise. On his right wrist, he sported his new LoomiWatch. He leaned back in his chair, content. He set down his yarn and hook and picked up his latest creation: a simple red beanie. It was an easy project, something to pass the time. He tried it on and spun around in his desk chair, perfection.
"Thane!" A voice called from downstairs. Thane opened one eye, "Coming!" He jumped up and took off the beanie, tossing it on his bed as he walked out the door. Quickly walking down the hall and down the stairs, he met his mother in the kitchen. "there you are. Your father called a moment ago. He was at the dig site when the storm came. He said something very interesting had happened to the stone tablet he'd been studying. He insists on showing you."
Thane perked up. While he didn't know much about history, Loomian Care, or much at all of either of his parents' professions, he still found them fascinating. The Stone Tablet his dad and Uncle Derrick found was probably the coolest thing from either of their lines of work. "That's awesome!" Thane exclaimed. "I'll go grab my raincoat!" He began to turn, but that's when Lauren spotted the LoomiWatch on Thane's wrist, and she stopped him. "Oh, and I see you tried on your new LoomiWatch. To set it up, you have to press this button." She pointed to a button on the side and Thane pressed it.
