Thane was tired. He looked at the clock, it blinked a hazy green, a sight Thane's eyes hated. It read one in the morning. While his Loomians slept on the bed they had kicked him out of, Thane was staring at the computer in the room through sore eyes. He yawned and leaned back in the chair. He really needed sleep, but he also needed a few more minutes.
He leaned forward again and squinted. He was on the Roria League website, specifically, the Battle Theatre section, and more specifically, Naya's page. He had suffered a humiliating defeat, and he wanted to know why. He stared at her team, his eyes glazed over and his head fell forward a bit, then he snapped back up with a sound of confusion. Another yawn escaped him. Geklow, Kleptyke, Geklow, Kelptyke, Geklow... He kept repeating Naya's two Loomians in his head as he stared at the bright screen.
He knew he couldn't send out Geklow, not when she didn't want to listen to his commands and only fought when food was presented. It would be too humiliating. He also knew Embit and Twittle had suffered a humiliating loss against her Geklow as well. He stared hard at the two Loomian's profiles on the screen, then he looked down at his wrist at the holographic screen of the Loomipedia.
He thought hard for a moment, looking for the secret to defeating Naya. He stared at Embit's and Twittle's moves. What would the Champion do? He asked himself. Suddenly, it hit him, stat changes. He had used Stretch to boost Twittle's speed during his battle with Naya, but Thane had mostly overlooked stat-changing moves. Naya didn't, all it took was one Stare from her Geklow that ultimately beat Embit. The gears in Thane's head began to turn, slowly at first, then, faster, and faster. A plan was beginning to form in his head. He looked back up to the computer and smiled softly. Satisfied, Thane didn't notice his eyes growing heavy as day and night began to catch up to him. A blanket of darkness fell over his sight and he fell asleep, right there in the chair, in front of the computer.
When he awoke, the scent of leftover Loomian feed was swimming in his nose. His back ached, and his whole body ached from sleeping on the cheap desk chair. The drool on the desk suggested his head rested on the wooden surface for most of the night. He blinked, his eyes stung. Through his morning haze, he was quite amazed his Loomians didn't destroy the room. He blinked hard, trying to get his eyes to adjust.
With a grunt, he lifted his head up, and then he stretched his arms with a satisfied whine. He leaned in and squinted at the bottom right corner of the computer screen. It was past eleven, and Thane's heart skipped a beat. This was late, at least for him. He jumped up, kicking the chair onto the ground in the process. "Guys get ready, we're leaving in ten minutes." He instructed his Loomians.
He rushed about, shoving a piece of toast into his mouth, nearly choking on it. He started the shower and practically dove in, but he was out within two minutes. He threw on his clothes and rushed back into the room. His Loomians, even Geklow, were all ready. He quickly recalled Twittle and Geklow to their discs before he and Embit were out the door. As they rushed down the hall, Thane fixed his T-shirt that was on backward. He wasn't going to prolong this fight, if he did, then the nerves would eat him alive.
He and Embit rushed through the streets, nearly shoving people out of their way and yelling out apologies. By the time they had reached the Battle Theatre, Thane was out of breath, and he wiped the sweat off his forehead. "Come on Embit, this time, we're winning," Thane said to his partner as they looked up at the glowing building. Thane walked confidently into the building, his eyes quickly finding the man in the black top hat. He walked up to him with his lips tight in an expression of focus. "I'm here to challenge Naya."
Thane got lucky, like last time, he was in the final battle for the morning challenges. Unlike last time, however, he would win. Finally, the man in the top hat poked his head into the waiting room. "Coelho, you're up." He said before leaving the room just as quickly as he had entered. Thane took a deep breath and stood up, then he took another deep breath as he walked to the door leading to the battlefield.
