Versus The Enhanced

By the time Jake had woken up and realized he had fallen asleep, he groaned into his hand. His plan to sneak away hadn't gone through because of sleep. To make matters worse, a knock suddenly came from the door. "Jake?" Mabel's voice called from the other side. Jake groaned. "I'm coming, just give me a second!" He called out.

After a few long seconds, he sat up in bed. He sent his Searknight and Vari out of the room to wait with the others while Jake got ready. He brushed his hair and teeth and put on his ragged Team Eclipse uniform, he really needed new clothes, and stepped out of the room.

Everyone else was talking in the lobby while Embit played with Vari. Jake did notice, however, how Embit kept his distance from Searknight. "Hey, guys," Jake said casually as he walked up to them as if he wasn't planning on ditching them the previous night. The group greeted him, with Mabel's bored expression suddenly beaming. "Hey, Jake!" Jake waved, still trying to shake off his drowsiness.

Before Mabel could further bombard him, however, Thane beat her to it. Mabel huffed in annoyance as Thane began to speak to Jake, and informed the entire group of his findings from the previous night. "Alright, I was researching Faust last night. She uses three Loomians, Munchweel, Concredon, and Stratusoar." Lucy cocked her head to the side. "So what Loomians are you gonna use?" Thane grinned at her. "I'm gonna use Geklow, Paratweet, and Embit." Embit cheered at this.

Lucas groaned as he stretched. "That's great, and all, Thane. But can we eat first before you do anything?" To this, everyone agreed. However, they made the mistake of letting Lucas pick the restaurant, and he wanted to try the New Shushi Stick.

Now, as they were walking, Mabel engaged Jake in awkward small talk while Thane bombarded the twins with his strategies for his upcoming fight with Faust. "Alright, I'm gonna start with Embit to deal with Munchweel, then after it goes down I'm going to switch to..." Lucy tuned him out while her brother listened intently. Embit, who was perched on Lucy's shoulder, and Whispup who secretly followed behind, both listened closely as well.

The group journeyed across the city on their quest to reach the New Shushi Stick. Fortunately, the atmosphere during this hour seemed to be less hostile than usual. Maybe it's more peaceful out here because only normal people are up and about. Thane thought as he scanned the street. The only people walking around were non-augmented, Baseline, as they were called. Now if there was something POLUT Corp. could do about the disgusting state of the city.

A few minutes later, the group reached the restaurant. Even though it was morning, the area was dim. This meant that the neon lights were still shining, albeit dimly. Thane had to admit, it was beautiful, but nothing could beat the sight of the previous night. It was probably the most beautiful thing Thane had seen on his journey thus far, and he couldn't wait to see more spectacles like it.

As the group made their way to the sushi restaurant, they passed a bagel store and Thane whined. "We just passed a perfectly good bagel store." He whined. Lucy giggled while Lucas began to walk faster, hunger in his eyes.

Suddenly, the brightness in Lucy's eyes disappeared as her eyes scanned the area. Toward the back of the plaza and away from prying eyes, a commotion was brewing. A short girl around their age with purple hair and gothic clothing was cornered by three Clanks. Two men, one woman. The girl's Vambat lunged threateningly at the cybernetic humans, but it did nothing to deter them. They just kept closing in, forcing the girl and her Vambat back and into the alley behind them.

Lucy stopped and grabbed Thane's arm, making the boy come to a stop next to her. "What is it?" Thane asked. By this point, everyone else had stopped. Lucy motioned to the corner of the plaza. "Look." She said. "That girl and her Vambat are going to get jumped." Everyone turned to where Lucy was pointing and stared. By this point, the girl had one foot in the alleyway.
