That night, when Thane's new traveling companions slept, the boy and his Loomians discussed how to proceed. They waited until the three of them, and all of their Loomians were deeply asleep before sneaking off and out of earshot. The cool wind made Thane's silver hair swoosh and his pajamas ruffle. He stood in front of his team, and unbeknownst to everyone, Whispup also stood at attention.
"Alright guys, looks like we're sticking with them until we reach Sepharite." No one objected. Thane sighed. "But what are we going to do when we get to Sepharite? I mean, we can't exactly force them into traveling with us." He sighed. "It doesn't matter, they'll probably ditch us first when we get to the city." He said, sounding surprisingly remorseful. He looked up at his team. "All in favor of ditching them tonight." No one voted, not human, or Loomian. "All in favor of ditching them when we get to Sepharite?" Yet again, no one voted, and Thane couldn't help but smile softly. "Alright, I guess we'll see where this gets us." He said, somewhat relieved.
Then, everyone walked back to camp where a peaceful sleep awaited them.
The next morning, Thane's new companions had no idea of the conversation he had with his team the previous night. "Good morning, Thane." Lucas greeted as he ate a pack of sour gummy worms while preparing sandwiches.
All of the Loomians were already awake and entranced by Lissen's playing. Thane had to admit, the sound was beautiful. Thane yawned and waved in greeting. "Want one?" Lucas asked as he held out the bag. "Sure," Thane replied. He started to walk over when Lucas fished a gummy from the bag and tossed it through the air. Thane stopped and bent forward, barely catching the candy in his mouth, much to the delight of the two boys. However, when the sleeping girls began to stir, they quieted.
When everyone awoke, the group ate the food Lucas had prepared. The mood was far more amicable than the previous day. "What do you guys want to do when we get to Sepharite?" They already knew that Thane was intending to take on Faust, but Thane was curious as to what they wanted to do. "I want to try the restaurants!" Lucas said quickly through bites of food, causing the girls to roll their eyes. Then Lucy's eyes lit up. "I want to see how POLUT Corp makes all those cute little Loomians!" Mabel turned to her friend. "Lucy, those Loomians are mass-produced to clean up the mess POLUT Corp keeps making. They aren't cute." Lucy didn't care. "I know, but that doesn't mean they're not cute."
After the group ate, they packed up camp to set off in hopes of finding the path to the city. Thane, Lucas, and Lucy recalled their Loomians while Paratweet perched on Thane's arm. "Scout ahead," Thane instructed. Paratweet nodded and took off into the air. Then, the new traveling companions set off. Whispup, hiding in Thane's shadow, followed closely behind.
While walking, Embit took time to get familiar with their new companions. He jumped down from Thane's shoulder and approached Lucas first. The boy smelled of honey and bread, it was a pleasant smell and Embit was quick to memorize it. His heart beat fast, but in constant excitement. When he climbed onto the boy's shoulder, he was scratched behind the ears.
A few minutes later, Embit jumped off and tried approaching Mabel. As he drew closer, his ears picked up the sound of her heart beating faster, and he could smell the bitter sweat running down the back of her neck and building on her palms. She was scared. Maybe next time Embit could approach.
Instead, he went up to Lucy who eagerly picked him up. She smelled like a mix of dirt and flowers and her heart beat steadily. So, Embit settled on Lucy's shoulder as his new perch. Traitor. Thane thought playfully.
A few minutes later, Paratweet dove from the sky with a cry, causing Mabel to flinch. Paratweet landed on Thane's outstretched arm. "What is it, girl? Did you find a way to the city?" Paratweet nodded and took back off into the air. "It better be for real this time!" Thane called out as the group raced after Paratweet.
