Thane had an idea. It was probably a bad idea, but Thane was desperate. As Embit slipped onto the field, Thane put his plan in motion. "Use Fire Breath on the field!" This caught everyone off guard, but Embit trusted his trainer. Before Faust could ponder the decision, Embit fired a stream of fire into the field, and Thane saw that he was right. The oil covering the entire field exploded into a blast that covered the entire field.
When the dust cleared, the oil was gone and Munchweel's silver form was down. "Munchweel is down," Via informed. Thane nodded. "But your strategy left Embit also taking the blast, which could be your undoing." Thane felt a pang of guilt. "Embit, are you okay?" He asked nervously. A cry of confidence replied, and Thane felt some relief. Embit could still battle, and there were no hard feelings over his strategy.
As the commentator praised Thane's out-of-the-box thinking, Faust recalled Munchweel. For the first time since the battle had begun, Thane felt like he could win. "Didn't expect that!" She commented. "But you still have two more Loomians to deal with! Go, Stratusoar!"
Back in Mitis Town, Noah, Lauren, and now Derrick watched with concern.
In the stands, his friends watched with worry. "This isn't good," Lucy said. Jake nodded. "Yeah, that strategy was way too risky, and Stratusoar has the type advantage with its Air type. I don't see Thane winning this." Mabel and Slugling stayed silent and just watched. Meanwhile, Lucas ate popcorn.
"Stratusoar, let's start with Metal Shriek!" Faust commanded. Stratusoar flew into the air and let out an ear-piercing shriek that left Thane and Embit covering their ears. It also lowered Embit's defenses. "Now, Heavy Bash!" Thane quickly countered. "Fire Breath!" As Stratusoar swooped down, Embit unleashed a stream of fire from his mouth, keeping it at bay.
"Gust!" Faust commanded. Stratusoar flew back and began to flap its wings, creating hurricane-like winds that dispersed Embit's flames and threw the small Loomian back. Faust seized the opening. "Cyclone Slam!" As Embit struggled to his feet, the weight of a freight train slammed into him as Stratusoar collided with him with the super-effective move.
A few seconds later, Stratusoar flew back into the air before returning to land in front of its trainer. "Embit!" Thane cried out for his partner. Embit didn't stand up.
About an hour later, the group was in the Trainer Station. After Thane's team had been healed, he and Embit went to sit in the corner of the lobby. From a small table, his friends watched with concern. "Well, at least he tried," Lucy said. Lucas agreed through bites of chocolate.
Just then, the group turned in surprise as Thane walked past them with Embit on his shoulder and out of the Trainer Station. After a few long moments, Jake stood up. "I'll go talk to him." He said as he pushed his chair back and walked towards the exit, ready to comfort his friend.
What he found was Thane sitting on the sidewalk, leaning up against the building, on a call with someone, a man. Thane hasn't noticed him, and Embit was so engrossed in the conversation that even he didn't pick up on Jake. With a brief moment of stealth, Jake listened in.
"Thane, I know how much this means to you, but look at yourself! You've already gotten hurt. When were you planning on telling us? Were you planning on telling us?" The man demanded and Thane tried to defend himself. "I know, I know! But who got you two pieces of the tablet?" Jake perked up at that. "I have my team, they're strong. And I have this new technology. Just give me another chance!"
Jake didn't know what was going on, but he felt like that last chance Thane wanted wasn't coming. To his, and Thane's surprise, Noah relented with a sigh. "Fine. You've already proved to me and your mother that you're capable. You've recovered two pieces of the corrupted stone and won two medals. You get one last chance." Thane's face broke into a grin, but before he could shout his joy, Noah continued. "You have three days to get the stone, and beat Faust. If you can't do that, then you're coming home."
