Thane and Akio waited anxiously as they waited for the nurse to bring, hopefully, good news. Thane sat, his heart pounding and foot tapping nervously. Next to him, Embit was sitting with his arms crossed, anger and worry in his eyes. Akio was pacing around the room, a look of anger and betrayal sticking to his face.
Finally, Thane got the courage to ask the question seared into his brain. "What was that all about? Who was that guy?" He squeaked out, barely loud enough to be heard. Akio stopped and paused for a long moment. Thane thought he said something wrong, but then Akio spoke. "He was my oldest son, Yuto."
He turned away as he continued. "He wasn't anything like Hayato, the opposite in every way, but, but I loved him." He sighed. "I thought if he became a monk, he would change, but he wanted to go on a journey. I let him if he defeated me in a battle. He did, and won my medal, starting his journey. I thought, I thought if he was doing something that he wanted to do, that he would change. I even gave him Whispup, so he would never forget where he came from." He chuckled. "It's tradition. The oldest son of a family, when he comes of age, receives a Whispup to care for, and raise into a strong warrior." Akio choked back a sob. "He threw it all away and spat in my face."
Before Thane could say anything, the nurse emerged. Everyone rushed at her, waiting for an answer. "How is he?" Akio asked, no, demanded. The nurse held out her hands. "Whispup is going to be fine as long as he rests. It has to stay here for the time being, though." Akio looked ready to protest when Thane cut in. "I'll stay with it." Akio turned to look at him. "I found Whispup in the alley. I want to make sure he recovers."
The nurse nodded and retreated into the back room, leaving Thane and Akio alone again. "Thank you, Akio. I would stay, but I'm needed at the theatre and the Pagoda." He stared hard into Thane's eyes. "Can I trust that you will ensure Whispup's safety and recovery?" Thane's face grew serious. "You can count on me, Akio. I'll make sure Whispup gets better." Akio nodded gratefully and turned to leave. "I'll come back to check on Whispup tomorrow at noon." He said while walking out.
Once he was out of sight, Thane looked down at the floor and narrowed his eyes. Embit looked at him curiously as he licked a paw. Thane had work to do.
Thane took refuge in his room, letting out his team so they could eat and rest outside their discs. He ignored Geklow and Paratweet as they began fighting over food, letting Embit and Slugling resolve the issue by themselves. He shut the outside world completely as he loaded the Roria League website on the computer in his room. It had a database of all the Battle Theatres and respective Battle Stars, the cities they were located in, and where the Roria League tournament would be hosted, on top of other information about the league, including data on all the trainers participating.
Out of curiosity, he searched himself up. On the screen, his profile came up. There was a picture of him, and a short paragraph of information about him like his place of origin, Mitis Town, his Loomian team, and how many medals he had. "Cool..." Thane mused. By this point, his team crowded around him as he put a single name into the search bar. Yuto.
There was significantly more information on Yuto compared to Thane. It said Yuto was the adopted son of Battle Star Akio, and that he had three medals, Thane's eyebrow arched at that. But what caught Thane's eye the most, was that he didn't have just five Loomians, but eight, rotating Loomians, all powerhouses. Technically it was seven, since the list showed Whispup, and now he wasn't in Yuto's "care," and the list didn't mention the released Babore at all. Thane's eyes scanned the list. Whispup, Ursoul, Ventacean, Zepholen, Copling, Territi, and Amphiton. But, there was nothing on his abuse against Whispup, or potential abuse against his other Loomians. It frustrated Thane. Before he knew it, just like in Slivent City, he, and now the rest of his team fell asleep at the computer.
