Steve convinced me that going with Dr Erskine was the best thing to do. I knew he was right, but with every day that passed I could feel my heart break a little bit more. I didn't want to leave Steve, especially since it was only a matter of time until Bucky was sent overseas to fight. The thought of him alone with no one to turn to when he got sick made me question my decision.

January disappeared and February came bring a sense of dread with it. Steve and I spent as much time as possible together and Bucky made sure that nothing would get in our way. He even went as far as taking Steve's shift that fell on my birthday/valentine's day so we could spend whole day with each other because it was the last day before I left to join the SSR.

I had been fitted for my uniform and was given the title of agent. The day that I had my uniform fitting I met another member of the SSR, Agent Peggy Carter. She was British and the only other woman in the division. She was more than happy that she would finally have someone to talk to. She explained to me that she was working on the other side of Dr Erskine's project, which was the super soldier program.

The day of my birthday arrived and I woke up to Steve getting breakfast ready. I walked in to the kitchen to see Steve placing flowers in a vase on to the table and two plates with stacks of pancakes. I couldn't help but smile at the sight, Steve had remembered what I had told him about my birthdays from when I was younger. My father always made the most ridiculous amount of chocolate chip pancakes because they were my favorite food when I was younger. This tradition continued even as I got older and my obsession with anything chocolate chip faded.

"Steve you didn't have to go to all this trouble," I said as I walked over to him and gave him a kiss on the cheek. "It must have cost a fortune to get all of this."

"Don't worry, Marge spent her granddaughter over this morning with the pancakes as a birthday present," he told me as he pulled out one of the chairs for me to sit down.

"I know you Steve, you would have got them anyway."

"You know me to well Kimberly because you are 100% right"
