After a few days of discussing everything that had happened and talking to Elsa about the possibility of moving, we came to a decision. We were going to move back to New York. It really was a once in a life time opportunity to work alongside Professor Xavier and since Steve technically still wasn't on active duty with SHEILD, he would be able to look after Elsa while I was teaching, until she was old enough to start kindergarten. Elsa was a little upset that she was leaving Danny, but was also excited about making new friends. We promised her that we would go back to Tennessee during every school break so she could spend time with her best friend so she wouldn't miss him as much.
It was a strange feeling packing up my whole life in to boxes, there were so many memories attached to almost everything that I packed away. From my high school yearbooks to the blanket, I brought Elsa home in. Since Steve did have much to pack, he helped me sort through everything in my room and deciding what I should pack and what should stay. Elsa wanted to help me as well, so she sat on the bed holding her pink cat, giving a running commentary on what she thought of everything.
"Is that my bag that I use to take to art college?" he asked as he brought down a box that was sitting on the top shelf in my cupboard.
"I forgot that was in there," I laughed as I walked over to the box to see what else I had put in it. "Elsa, come over here and sit with Mummy as she goes through the box."
She quickly climbed down off the bed and sat down next to me on the ground as Steve sat opposite us. Steve pulled out his old leather messenger bag out of the box and smiled, most likely remembering when Bucky gave it to him for Christmas. Packed away under the box was my leather bomber jacket with the special bulletproof lining that Howard had made me. It was still in perfect condition and when I checked the pockets, I found a photo of the both of us on the day he gave it to me. Howard was smiling proudly as he placed the jacket over my shoulders and I was laughing about how he was acting like he was putting a cape around the shoulders of a queen or something.
"Mummy, who is that man?" Elsa asked, pointing Howard.
"That's Howard Stark, princess. I've told you all about him, remember," I told her as I handed her the photo to look at.
"He was Tony's Daddy, wasn't he?" she asked as she looked down at the photo she held in her little hands.
"He was and he was an amazing man," Steve told her, looking over at the photo with a sad smile.
The three of us spent the rest of the afternoon going through everything as Elsa asked questions about things that she found in the box which held everything that I had brought back from the 1940's with me. By the time dinner was ready, we had just about packed everything.
"Are you coming down to dinner," Steve asked me as picked Elsa up to take her downstairs.
"I'll be a minute, there is one more place I need to check," I told him as I kissed his cheek and then Elsa's before they headed down.
