*Amelia's POV*

"Are you okay, dear? Do you want something to eat or to drink?" the police officer asked.

I just shrugged my shoulders.
I wasn't going to talk to any of them.
They've been trying for the past hour, but without success.
They ruined my life.

Hi, I'm Amelia Adams and I'm thirteen years old.
Until today, I lived at home with my parents and my ten year old brother, Lucas.

"Sweetie, we're just going over to visit Mark. Wanna come along?" mom asked.

Mark was one of dad's colleagues. He had a heart attack, a few days ago, and was in the hospital.

"Nah, I think I'll stay home" I replied.

Mark was a nice guy. He'd come over several times before and he was really sweet.
I just wasn't in the mood of leaving the house now.

"Okay, but then you're gonna be home all alone. You sure you want that?" mom asked.

"Lucas coming with you?"

"Yeah, he is"

Of course.
Lucas is the cutest boy. He's a really good little brother to me and I'm very thankful to have him. Of course, we have our usual sibling fights, but he's also my best friend. He's very clingy, though. Whenever my parents leave the house, he has to come along. He can't be away from them for more then a few minutes, without having a panic attack. My parents went to the doctor with him, to check it out, but they said that he'll grow over it, eventually.

"It's okay. I can stay home. I'll be fine" I reassured her.

"Okay, but don't open the door for anyone, okay? Don't let anyone in. If you have a problem, call me right away"

"Don't worry, mom. I'll be fine"

"That's my girl. I'll see you soon, baby. I love you" she hugged me.

"I love you too, mom. See you soon"

"Bye, Amelia. See ya" Lucas waved, as he left the house.

"See ya, buddy. Have fun" I smiled at him.

"Be careful, honey. Don't do anything dangerous and don't open the door for anyone" dad kissed my forehead.

"Don't worry, dad. I won't open the door and I won't do anything dangerous. Now, go. Mark's waiting. I'll see you soon"

"See you later, love" he smiled and waked to the car.
I stood by the door, till I couldn't see the car anymore, and walked back in, locking the front door behind me.

It was the first time my parents left me at home alone, at night.
It wasn't very late, yet, just six thirty, but it was already dark outside, so it felt like night.
The first time they left me home alone was about half a year ago. It was in the afternoon and they had to leave. Lucas was at a friends house, but I was home. I reassured them that I was gonna be okay and I could stay home alone. After all, I was already twelve.
They gave me a whole list of instructions, what to do, what not to do, when to call, when to answer the phone and all the other things you can think of.
Now, at thirteen, I was old enough to stay home at night, as well, right? I mean, what could possibly go wrong?

I sat down on the couch and watched TV.
My parents were already gone for an hour and should return any minute now.

There was loud knocking on the door, but I ignored it.
Mom an dad have a key, so it couldn't be them.
And they told me not to open for anyone, so I'm not opening that door.
The knocking continued. It started to scare me a little.
Why didn't that person just leave? What did he or she want?
I called mom on her cellphone to see if they were almost home, but she didn't answer. Dad didn't answer, either. Weird.

"Open the door, please. Police orders" I heard a lady say.

What? Why was there a police at my door? Did something happen?
